Guo Jia died with plenty left undone. Cao Cao hadn't returned victorious yet, so Guo Jia could claim the fine wine he'd been promised. He hadn't helped his lord unite the Central Plains or fulfilled his promise to his friend Zhicai. Sun Ce was still eyeing Jiangdong (So what if he can swim?). Liu Bei was still gathering strength in Hanzhong (Guo Jia had never liked those big ears). The peach tree he'd planted hadn't blossomed, and the tab at the tavern wasn't due yet. Only when death was upon him did Guo Jia realize that, for all his claims of carefree abandon, there was still plenty he couldn't let go of. Most importantly, he didn't want to die of thirst (cough)!
And so Guo Jia was reborn. When he opened his eyes again, he found himself transformed into an exquisitely crafted folding fan, held by a young man wearing a blue crown (who was not handsome. Not. At. All.). He couldn't speak or move, let alone eat.
Perhaps the one bright spot in his misfortune was that this man named Sima Yi had also been forcibly recruited by Cao Cao and become a minister of Wei. Fan-ghost Guo Jia comforted himself: at least he hadn't betrayed his lord, right?
