Synopsis

[Revision in progress, expected to finish soon]

My neighbor is a young man with white hair.

Whenever I come home from work and run into him in the elevator, he habitually greets me with a gentle, refined smile, perfectly polite and harmless.

"Good evening, Miss Mashiro," he says, looking like the kind of man who would make women scream.

"Good evening, Mr. Makishima." I smile, as the familiar chill crawls up my spine.

--Good evening, serpent of Eden, leading humanity into sin.

What is the difference between humans and animals?

--When both seek the light, insects fly into the flames, while humans drill wood to make fire.

Then what is the difference between humans and machines?

--Machines cannot act of their own accord. Screws and circuits cannot create a dazzling soul, while humans can bring a new world into being simply by thinking.

A few things to know before reading:

① Don't believe everything narrated in the first person. The female lead is ill! Seriously ill! (.)

② The male lead is a mentally ill patient with a typical antisocial personality disorder, though it manifests differently from most people's.

③ This is an early fanfic, so the writing is immature and full of plot holes. It isn't faithful to the original, and I've forgotten everything my Chinese teacher taught me about literature!
