Love in Longcheng

Ye Yafei and Qin Fan are in love. After the college entrance exams, they agree to meet again on Qixi four years later. Qin Fan promises that after four years of hard work, he'll be rich and able to marry Ye Yafei.

Two years later, Qin Fan loses contact with her. Worried, Ye Yafei arrives in his city two days before their appointed Qixi meeting to look for him.

As soon as she gets off the train, Ye Yafei finds a motorcycle taxi driver to help her search. Along the way, she discovers that Qin Fan's failures have left him destitute and down on his luck, too ashamed to face her. This only makes her love him more. As Qixi draws to a close, Ye Yafei is overcome with grief. The motorcycle taxi driver finds a literary-minded fellow who successfully persuades Ye Yafei to leave Qin Fan, then drives her away.

Watching Ye Yafei leave, the motorcycle taxi driver breaks down sobbing. He is Qin Fan. Knowing Ye Yafei would come looking for him, he disguised himself as a motorcycle taxi driver so he could silently accompany her on Qixi, then personally send the woman he loves away.

In the depths of his anguish, Qin Fan accidentally discovers that he can transmigrate to the past. By changing the past, he can alter his fate. Time in the present resets to the starting point: two days before Qixi, when Qin Fan meets Ye Yafei at the train station for the first time in four years.

Because he remembers how stocks performed, Qin Fan made a fortune trading shares four years earlier and became a stock market god in the eyes of investors. His past failures made him deeply resentful of society. He grew greedy and lost his humanity, though his love for Ye Yafei remained genuine. Qin Fan repeatedly uses all kinds of methods to manipulate stock prices. Liu Geng keeps his cool. He has already figured out Qin Fan's tactics, and if he strikes at the crucial moment, he can defeat Qin Fan in one fell swoop. But at that very moment, Qin Fan catches Liu Geng off guard, leaving him no chance to recover. When Qixi arrives, Qin Fan and Ye Yafei hold a lavish wedding. At the wedding, Liu Geng sends him a contract agreeing to give up his position. Qin Fan accepts it, but when he comes back out, Ye Yafei has vanished. He then gets a call: Liu Geng has kidnapped Ye Yafei and wants Qin Fan to come find him.

Liu Geng and Qin Fan have a thought-provoking conversation. At the end, Qin Fan declares that he will give up everything as long as Liu Geng lets Ye Yafei go. Just as it seems all will be well, Liu Geng shoots Ye Yafei right in front of Qin Fan, then turns the gun on himself. Qin Fan is on the verge of a breakdown.

Qin Fan transmigrates to the past again, this time becoming the owner of a barbecue shop. He and Ye Yafei live an ordinary, loving, and peaceful life, and spend an incredibly romantic day together on the day before Qixi.

Qin Fan plans to love Ye Yafei like this for the rest of his life. Suddenly, a gang of thugs comes to extort them. Afraid the situation will escalate, Qin Fan keeps yielding.

Qin Fan suddenly realizes that these thugs were the original owners of the barbecue shop. He took the shop from them, leaving the young men without a livelihood and driving them into delinquency. Over four years, they became a massive criminal gang of more than a hundred, involved in extortion, kidnapping, theft, and robbery.

Qin Fan is stunned to realize that he personally created this gang of thugs and villains, and he becomes even more accommodating. Then the gang leader, Da Chang, starts harassing Ye Yafei. Qin Fan can no longer hold back his anger and fights Da Chang. The police are on their way, so Da Chang leaves with his men after threatening to kill him.

After careful thought, Qin Fan decides to rely on himself to get the gang sent to prison and rehabilitated.

Relying on his familiarity with the city's roads, Qin Fan outmaneuvers the gang of more than a hundred thugs on the highway. After a bloody struggle and a series of clever maneuvers, he defeats Da Chang on the road and escapes alive.

Qin Fan then realizes that, on the surface, he has won, but in truth, he has fallen into an even deeper quagmire. Everything has to be rewritten. Looking at the hard-won happiness in his hands, he doesn't want to part from the woman he loves, but he has no choice but to start over.

Qin Fan becomes a kindhearted angel, helping many people and giving them better lives. He becomes friends with Liu Geng, Da Chang, and many others.

Helping people brings Qin Fan great joy, and he and Ye Yafei are deeply in love. This is the life he wants.

Qin Fan wakes up, and it is still two days before Qixi. The room is decorated warmly, but Ye Yafei has disappeared.

On Qixi, Ye Yafei appears again.

It turns out that Qin Fan used his power to help others, but never used it to take care of Ye Yafei. Worse, his negligence caused her father's death. Ye Yafei came to hate Qin Fan, left him, and gave herself over to prostitution, becoming his sworn enemy.

Ye Yafei has come especially to humiliate Qin Fan on Qixi.

Qin Fan watches Ye Yafei leave with a rich playboy, heartbroken.

For his final transmigration, Qin Fan chooses the first time he and Ye Yafei met, and he doesn't show up.

The final scene closely resembles Qin Fan seeing Ye Yafei off as she leaves by train, then returning to his room. Perhaps Qin Fan never transmigrated at all, and everything that happened was just a series of dreams. Or perhaps everything begins again, leaving endless possibilities for the imagination.
