[Harry Potter] Secret Crush

The cry of the baby in the next room interrupted Penny's contemplation. She quickly put down the diary in her hand and subconsciously retracted it into the drawer of the mahogany table. Penny quickly walked into the room. It looked like she had just bought a brand new crib, and there was a faint smell of paint filling the room. Harry lay crying and thrashing around, with big tears falling from the corners of his eyes. She sighed, bent down skillfully, held the child in her arms, and gently coaxed her up. Until the child in her arms gradually fell asleep, she slowly leaned back on the soft chair nearby and just stretched out her hand to shake the crib unconsciously. If someone had told Penny Evans a month ago that the top student at Trinity College, Cambridge, would drop out of school to be a nanny for a baby, then Penny would have looked at him coldly and told him that there must be an irreversible problem with the wavelength of his brain. But now, she is sitting here, and the child next to her may be her only and last relative in the world. When the stern-looking witch wearing green wizard robes and a pointed hat found her, she was about to go to the Dursley's house diagonally across the street to discuss their engagement ceremony with Vernon. Petunia can still recall the night a month ago, which was a bit cool and breezy. When she was tidying up the room, she accidentally broke the photo frame of Lily and herself. She was taking out the photo, and was still thinking secretly whether she should try to send a letter to Lily, telling her that she was engaged even if she didn't plan to attend. Of course, this thought was just a passing thought. Since the death of the Evanses, they have not contacted each other again, and Lily did not even attend the funerals of the Evanses. It was only that night that she realized clearly that perhaps she had lost contact with her last relative in the world. Then, Professor McGonagall, who wore wizard robes and claimed to be from Hogwarts, knocked on her door, handed the baby in his hand to her, and told her that Lily and her husband, Mr. Potter, had died fighting an unnamed person in the wizarding world. The child she was holding now was her nephew, Harry Potter. "Miss Evans, although I am very sorry, but for some reason that I cannot tell you, Harry must stay with you until he reaches adulthood." The witch raised her head slightly, and although her tone was sincere, it still made Petunia feel a little uncomfortable. Yes, whether it was Lily's husband, Mr. Potter, or the lady who claimed to be a professor in front of her, they may have tried their best to restrain themselves, but they still put her in the weak position at the beginning of this conversation - as if they were speaking Martian or ancient Egyptian script. No matter whether they explained it or not, she couldn't understand it. All she needed was to follow their instructions. But this time, Petunia had no other choice. She seemed to have no choice but to take Harry from the professor. "So, Lily and the others - were they sacrificed?" She looked at each other and asked in silence for a moment. A trace of sadness flashed in the emerald green eyes of the lady named Mag, which was quickly suppressed: "Yes. Your sister and brother-in-law are heroes." Hero? She remembered a quarrel Lily had had with her during the summer vacation of her third year at Hogwarts. "Of course Gryffindor is the best! Petunia, those who are sorted into Gryffindor are all brave children!" Lily's red hair was like a flame. Petunia had secretly envied her many times when she was a child, but she never expressed anything. Mrs. Evans told her that she was the sister. ——"Lily, I didn't slander Gryffindor." At that time, she tried to speak more clearly: "I have read your book, the one about the history of Hogwarts school. There are four houses in it, so I believe that these four houses have their own strengths, even Slytherin." They always quarreled during that summer vacation. At that time, she knew that Lily's sense of justice was too strong, as strong as her red hair. As for her, why should she argue with Lily about these unimportant things? She thought that everyone always had someone buried deep in their hearts during their youth, and she was like every girl who had a crush on the other person and could not tolerate others saying bad things about her. ——"Petunia, you talk like a Slytherin!" Lily started to scream, which she always did whenever she couldn't convince Petunia. In her opinion, Slytherin can be used as an adjective, but of course, the word must be derogatory. Penny didn't answer her words. She didn't want to continue arguing with Lily at this time. But the next words finally caused a crack in their sisterly relationship, which was not fully repaired until Lily died. ——"Oh, the prerequisite is that you are a wizard, right? Petunia." Lily's eyes were emerald green, so alluring in the sunlight, but what she said made Petunia clearly understand that the sisters could not go back in the end. ——"The prerequisite is that I have to be a pure-blood wizard, not a Muggle, right?" She remembered herself at the time and retorted coldly, then turned and went upstairs to her room. Penny took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down. Six or seven years had passed, but that memory still remained in her mind and could not be dissipated. Her trance lasted only for a moment, and even Professor McGonagall didn't pay much attention to it. "And what about the man who killed them?" She asked, hoping that she would be safe while adopting Harry. She clearly saw that on this mild night, the wizard who was over fifty years old shivered. "Oh, he, he disappeared." The other party's answer was very brief, as if he didn't want to talk more. Disappeared? Petunia pursed her lips, which meant that she would come back, but it seemed that the other party was unwilling to reveal more. She made her last request: "Did Harry not be able to control his own abilities when he was young?" Just like Lily, she also suffered a lot when she was young because she could not control her magic power. Now she is not the gentle Mrs. Evans, who has the ability to guard Harry every day to prevent anyone from discovering that he is different from others. The witch was obviously stunned for a moment, and then nodded: "Young wizards cannot control their own magic, and sometimes magic riots will occur. This is why we hope they enter Hogwarts to study." Penny nodded: "Then, I hope you, or the party you represent, will provide me with a magic potion." She looked at Professor McGonagall's raised eyebrows, but did not give in at all: "Yes, a potion that can control Harry's magic power fluctuations as much as possible." The other party didn't say anything, just looked at her carefully, as if she was afraid that she would be harmful to Harry. Petunia was unmoved and just stated a fact coldly: "Professor McGonagall, I am only twenty-two years old. I still have my life, don't I?" Her tone finally made Professor McGonagall realize that if her request was not met, she seemed to be able to throw the baby in her arms to her again without any scruples. Professor McGonagall nodded reluctantly: "After the production is completed, I will ask the owl to deliver it. If there is anything, you can also ask the owl in your warehouse to deliver a letter to me." Penny realized that perhaps while they were talking, the witch had used magic to illegally smuggle an owl into her home. She nodded slowly, in a protracted tone, and raised her brown eyebrows slightly: "Okay. Obviously, I look forward to a normal communication method, but I also know clearly that this is just as impossible as asking a wizard not to use magic against normal people, isn't it?" At that moment, Professor McGonagall suddenly felt that the person in front of him had a strange sense of familiarity. The next month after adopting Harry, Petunia's life was chaotic. Although she told Professor McGonagall that she still had her own life, no one knew better than Petunia that maybe she could no longer successfully complete her studies - at least not until Harry was eleven years old and went to that magic school to study. She cleaned out a room that night, canceled her appointment with Vernon the next day, and went to buy a crib and many baby supplies. Within half a day, the whole street knew that young Miss Evans had a baby at home. As her fiancé, Dursley naturally came to inquire. "So, this is Lily's child?" Vernon was a tall young man, his appearance was not outstanding, but he was very good to Petunia, or he always thought that Petunia was very smart, and he needed a smart wife. "Yes." Petunia nodded slightly, and Harry in her arms was trying to put his entire hand into his mouth. "Then, he is also a -" The other party paused obviously, seeming to decide whether to use the polite term "wizard" or choose to use the word "monster" he used to call Lily when he was a child. Petunia answered quickly: "Yes, Harry is also a wizard." Vernon stood up and began to pace back and forth anxiously, visibly avoiding Petunia's gaze: "Are you going to adopt him? I mean, I happen to know a very good orphanage, and they will take good care of this child." He spoke quickly and urgently, as if he was afraid that Petunia would interrupt midway. Petunia's gray-brown eyes met Vernon's blue eyes, and they both saw determination in each other's eyes. "I'm sorry, Vernon. I have to take him with me personally." She shook her head with some regret. They both understood what this difference meant to a young man and woman who were about to talk about marriage. "Oh, Petunia!" Vernon's voice rose, as if he wanted to wake her up: "Where are your studies?! You will be admitted to the most famous chemistry laboratory in the UK soon! You will be the only female researcher among them!" He could not forget the light in Petunia's gray-brown eyes when she was obsessed with academics. He did not believe that Petunia could give up everything within easy reach for this nephew of unknown origin. "He is my only nephew." Petunia sighed and went upstairs to put Harry back on the crib. When she went downstairs, Vernon was already standing at the door of the Evans garden. "I'm sorry." The other person seemed a little sad, his eyes were red, and he looked at the calm woman uneasily. "I should be the one saying sorry." Petunia gave him a hug. She had already expected Vernon's withdrawal. After all, as ordinary people, perhaps they looked forward to ordinary people's lives. Watching the tall figure walk back into the small villa diagonally opposite, Penny sighed, sat back on the sofa, and drank some red tea. The black tea was already cold, but it reminded her of someone whose temperature matched it very well. For so many years, she has been hinting to herself that it was just an old dream when she was young, a secret love that ended in nothing, and she could completely forget about him. However, it was not until just now, when she broke up with Vernon, that she realized that she suddenly felt a little relieved inside, as if she no longer had to wear a mask to deceive someone. Just a month ago, when she and Professor McGonagall were saying goodbye to each other, she almost blurted out one sentence, but she restrained herself very well - the other person was a Gryffindor, a Gryffindor like Lily, and there were questions she could never get satisfactory answers from them. Rather than letting vague answers cause her more troubles, she would rather avoid the question in the first place. Harry seemed to be asleep, his adaptability was amazing. Petunia held the cold black tea in her hands, her eyes finally sore, and the tears she had been holding back for a long time quietly fell. "You all left, leaving me alone again." She looked out the window with a smile and a cry, trying to raise her head high. "What about you, are you okay?" Penny closed her eyes, and the name came up from the bottom of her heart like a tattoo. Severus Snape.
