Alone, With No One to Turn To

When we first met, he held out his hand to me. It was the first warmth I ever knew.

When we fell in love, I felt like a boat and he was the tide, carrying me up and down, until little by little we drifted apart.

When we broke up, I put my hand on the doorknob and said softly, "An Jinliang, one day you'll understand what you've lost."

When we met again, he stood across from me, holding a brimming glass of wine. He tilted it toward me and said, "Yuan Shenshen, I drink to you."

Have you ever loved someone and been hurt by them, only to see them again after all that time and feel your heart stir, because you can't let go, because you can't bear to? Would you join me on this journey through a grand feast of love, and witness how this urban couple entrusts half a lifetime to each other?

You were never my first, but you have always been my one and only... -- Yuan Shenshen

There was once a world-famous film called The Legend of 1900. It had a line that stayed with me: You can't see where the city ends. Can you tell me where the end of the city is?

For me, that question has never mattered. I have no great ambition to reach the end of anywhere. To me, each new city is like a different opening line. Through it, you can glimpse a different world. Perhaps that's the greatest meaning of travel.

Of course, my life is rather ordinary. I'm not like those cool, single-minded people, photographers and writers, who spend huge amounts of time wandering alone. I spend most of my time among people, but the little time I do spend alone is enough for me. -- Dong Feilai
