Immortal Body

In a peach grove, an old scholar chased a young child around, repeatedly telling him to recite his lessons, while the child racked his brains to find a way out of it.

Leaning against a peach tree, he looked ingratiatingly at the old scholar. "Master, tell me a story, and I'll recite my lessons once you're done."

The old scholar opened the book in his hands to the last page and slowly read aloud: "Seven hundred years ago, after the death of the undying Evil King, the third prince, Huaiyang, succeeded him to the throne. Because he loved the color green, he came to be known as the Green King. The Green King ruled for 247 years, during which demons and monsters dared not run rampant among mortals. Such an achievement, apart from that of the Evil King, was unprecedented. Perhaps Heaven recognized his merits: the Green King lived a life free of misfortune and died peacefully at the age of 357. The Green King and his wife shared a deep and devoted love, and the Green Queen was the only one by his side throughout his life. Though unofficial histories say the Green King preferred men and was often accompanied by a young man in green, the events took place so long ago that they cannot be verified."

That was indeed what the book said.

The soul attached to the peach tree slowly nodded, then shook its head, a smug smile curling at the corner of its mouth.

But that person had told him the book was lying.

The soul gazed up at the sky as petals whirled through the air. It reached out and gently ruffled the child's hair, though its hand passed through empty air.

Deep in his heart, the book called memory fell open to its first page...
