The Deer’s Sorrow

The bow is drawn taut.

The arrow is aimed straight through the heart.

It is a remarkably beautiful stag, its antlers only just beginning to grow.

Rong Jiang is a hunter, famed far and wide as a sharpshooter who never misses.

When the arrow leaves the bowstring, it flies like a blazing meteor.

As it pierces the stag's heart, something strange happens. Rong Jiang clearly sees the arrow pass through its heart, yet not a drop of blood appears.

The stag throws back its head and cries out in anguish. Then it turns to gaze at Rong Jiang, its black eyes seemingly full of understanding.
