Birch Trees and Feathers
On a September day at a university, four girls meet in the breeze.
When Lu Yu, a freshman in the law department, stands at the campus gate with her suitcase, she meets Wei Hua, a second-year music student. One is bold and direct, the other cool and reserved. With only two centimeters between them in height, they stand almost eye to eye. Lu Yu is a year younger, yet she is always the one looking after Wei Hua. Onstage, Wei Hua is like a quiet birch tree, while Lu Yu is like a feather borne on the wind, able to take root wherever she lands.
Meanwhile, Lin Wan, a third-year computer science student, and Tian Tong, a third-year English student, are falling in love in their own way. With twelve centimeters between them, Lin Wan, gentle in a white dress, will crouch down for her, while Tian Tong, passionate in a black suit, will rise onto her toes for her. Their online names, "Tong Wei" and "Wan Yu," and their pet names, "Wanwan" and "Weiwei," have long tucked each other into their names.
Braised pork outside the practice room, half-sweet milk tea in the library, an embrace on the eve of a concert tour, and walking side by side on the road to graduate school: the birch tree takes root, the feather rides the wind; Wanwan stands by Tong, and Wan Yu returns to Wan.
This is a story about meeting, growing, standing side by side, and falling in love.
