Setting
The Yan'an dynasty's national flower is the peony. Red and white blooms grow together, symbolizing emperor and general. The Hehui dynasty takes the snow wolf as its emblem and the dark lotus as its palace flower, its plum-red and purple colors cold and sharp. The two countries have faced off for years. After Hehui's new emperor, Hua Jieran, ascends the throne and appoints Bai Lingsi as his chief strategist, his country's power grows until he finally turns his armies toward Yan'an.

- Xiao Jingliu: Yan'an's God of War, with shoulder-length red hair. Bold and fiery, he is ruthless to his enemies and devoted to Xiao Hua to the point of obsession.
- Hua Jieran: Emperor of Hehui, with purple hair tied into a small topknot. Relaxed and aloof, he is deeply ambitious and fixated on defeating Xiao Hua.
- Bai Lingsi: Hehui's chief strategist, with a plum-red ponytail braided down one side. Cool and calculating, he commands troops like pieces on a chessboard, but Xiao Jingliu gradually disrupts his plans.
Plot Summary
On the day of Yan'an's Peony Banquet, red and white peonies bloom throughout the palace. Xiao Hua sits in the place of honor, while Xiao Jingliu stands at the foot of the steps. One in white, one in red, they are the firm foundation of Yan'an's realm.
Before the banquet ends, an urgent report arrives from the border: Hehui's army is bearing down, led by Bai Lingsi, a strategist who has never known defeat. Xiao Jingliu volunteers to lead the campaign, and Xiao Hua personally helps him put on his armor. Xiao Jingliu's red hair brushes against Xiao Hua's white as he murmurs, "Imperial Brother, wait for me to return." Xiao Hua takes his hand. "Come back alive."
In the first battle at the border, Bai Lingsi uses dark lotuses as his formation and snow wolves as his banners, setting three traps in a row and forcing Yan'an's troops to retreat. Xiao Jingliu breaks through with a ruthlessness that stops at nothing. The two clash for the first time from afar, red facing plum-red across the battlefield.
Seeing that he cannot win by direct confrontation, Bai Lingsi turns to sow discord in Yan'an's court, prompting the Shen clan, the emperor's maternal relatives, to question Xiao Hua's decision to rely on Xiao Jingliu. Xiao Jingliu returns to the capital to protect the emperor, and the court's political intrigue begins. Xiao Hua is not swayed by the rumors. Instead, in front of everyone, he returns the military command seal to Xiao Jingliu, protecting his blade with the authority of an emperor.
Hua Jieran then takes the field himself. The purple-haired emperor and the white-haired emperor face one another for the first time. Hehui's army surrounds Yan'an's capital, and Bai Lingsi lays a deadly trap. Xiao Jingliu maneuvers outside the city while Xiao Hua personally leads the imperial army. His white hair is flecked with frost, yet he refuses to retreat even half a step.
Amid the crisis, Bai Lingsi gradually realizes that Hua Jieran is not fighting only for the realm. He also wants to prove his own victory through Xiao Hua's defeat. Bai Lingsi begins to waver, and in the final battle, he changes sides. His plum-red braid is torn apart as he helps rip open Hehui's battle lines.
Hua Jieran is defeated, but not killed. Xiao Hua spares him and brings the endless war to an end. Hehui withdraws, and peace returns to Yan'an.
After the war, the peonies bloom once more. Xiao Jingliu ties Xiao Hua's hair, weaving a red ribbon through the white strands. Xiao Hua asks, "Are you leaving again?" Xiao Jingliu embraces him from behind and answers softly, "I'm not going anywhere. I'll stay with you, Imperial Brother, and guard the peonies."
Romance
To the world, Xiao Jingliu is a decisive and ruthless God of War. With Xiao Hua, he shows nothing but wholehearted devotion. Xiao Hua may seem cool and restrained, but he has always put Xiao Jingliu's life above his own. There are no melodramatic misunderstandings between them, only standing together, protecting each other, cherishing one another, and choosing each other at every turn.
Political Intrigue
Bai Lingsi's schemes drive the war, Hua Jieran's ambition shapes his country's fate, Xiao Hua uses the art of rulership to steady the court, and Xiao Jingliu breaks through deadly traps with victories on the battlefield. Sweet romance does not weaken the political intrigue, and political intrigue does not dilute the romance. Every crisis ultimately comes down to one question: how can they survive together?
Ending
Hehui withdraws, Bai Lingsi leaves the battlefield, and Hua Jieran is left to deal with the aftermath. The Yan'an dynasty enjoys a brief peace, while Xiao Hua and Xiao Jingliu continue to rule and defend their borders side by side. Red and white peonies bloom together, symbolizing the emperor and the general, love and country, finally brought to a perfect conclusion.
Theme: I hope everyone is happy every day.
