Note: The first four chapters and the synopsis were thrown together in a rush. I'm really running out of time! Registration for the writing contest closes tomorrow. If you've just come across this, you can skip it for now; I still have to revise it. Updates should resume in about a week, at a pace of two chapters every other day.
Every living being has a guardian spirit by its side.
Some guardian spirits are mountains; some are old trees.
Pearl's guardian spirit is a nine-year-old boy who has already died.
His name was Xiaoye. He was born at the source of the Yellow River and never saw the sea in his life.
In the autumn when he fell ill, he kept talking about two things: the sea and Guanyin. He said, "Snow Hoof, when the Yellow River reaches its end, it becomes the sea. Guanyin by the sea is the most responsive. She can hear any wish."
The next day, the little mare set off. Five thousand kilometers, four hooves, and the words he had said.
Along the way, the wind parted the wolf packs for her, the snow covered her wounds, and when she was hungry, apples came floating downstream.
She thought she was just lucky.
Until that snowy night, when she looked back and saw a small line of barefoot footprints in the snow.
So it really was him.
[Nonhuman Perspective] [Road Trip] [Guardian Spirit] [Reincarnation]
When he was alive, he watched over her. After his death, he became all things and stayed by her side.
