Novel title: The Flaw Gallery: Dai Bao's Incomplete Case Files
Synopsis
"Perfect crimes? No, we only take the defective ones."
Furuta Dai Bao barely scraped into the police bureau with the lowest score in his class. He thought he could coast along in an easy job until retirement, but a transfer order dumped him into the fabled Special Case Investigation Division, a department full of oddballs who specialize in bizarre cases.
His partner is the brilliant detective Kujo-in Hijiri, whose solve rate is sky-high but who suffers from "symmetry OCD." Kujo-in only takes cases that are "imperfect": a wall is missing a brick in the killer's locked-room setup, the props in a copycat murder never quite make a complete set, or someone trying to fake an alibi gets the time difference wrong...
From "the locked room with one wall missing" to "copycat murder using an artifact from the wrong dynasty," and then to "the serial case with a threat letter full of misspellings"...
Dai Bao discovers that behind these seemingly amateur crimes, there is often a chill of human nature more piercing than any perfect crime.
When even the criminals' mistakes are riddled with holes, who is "completing" this tragedy for them?
