[Spoiled, headstrong, sweet wife vs. insecure, lovesick crybaby]
An Wanjun discovers that marrying He Yichen has three benefits:
First, He Yichen entered a prestigious academy at seven and passed the provincial examination at fifteen. Being known as the wife of a child prodigy lets her bask in the glory.
If he later passes the metropolitan examination, she could become a titled lady many years from now.
Second, he lets her hit and scold him without ever talking back. Even when she's spoiled and headstrong, he remains meek and humble, doing everything he can to make her happy.
Third, he's so innocent and pure-hearted that one squeeze makes him cry. He's great fun.
But there's one thing that really bothers her: she suspects he's impotent!
On their wedding day, he uses studying as an excuse to avoid consummating the marriage. Furious, she smashes the wedding table and demands, "If you don't share my bed tonight, then don't ever get into it again!"
He timidly chooses to sleep on the cold outer bed rather than consummate the marriage with her.
After testing him again and again, she and her mother-in-law finally administer a strong remedy. That's when she discovers the man before her isn't impotent. He's just not very bright~
He refuses to consummate the marriage, so she angrily goes back to her parents' home, ready to divorce him.
But for some reason, he comes running to the An household, pleading desperately for her forgiveness.
Seeing how obedient he is, An Wanjun magnanimously forgives him.
Late at night, he climbs into her bed. Facing her cold expression, he takes off his clothes, the corners of his eyes reddening as he begs:
"Please, take pity on me, my darling~"
An Wanjun can only graciously reply, "A man who's delivered himself to my door is certainly meant to be enjoyed properly~"
Just as their affection reaches its height, he turns to her beside his sickbed and asks for a divorce, unwilling to burden her.
She snorts and, with her slightly rounded belly, tells him, "A divorce? Fine! I'll take our unborn child and find someone else!"
He Yichen: He sits bolt upright on his deathbed. "My darling, don't leave me!"
When He Yichen first meets An Wanjun, she splits a stone table with one blow, overturning everything he thought he knew about delicate women.
Terrified, he thinks she's a "tigress" and would rather die than marry her.
After the wedding, he refuses to consummate the marriage and is treated like a servant, at her mercy.
He lies alone on the outer bed, crying miserably and racking his brain for a way to divorce her.
She sends away the maids, forces him to give up his clan chief position, and makes a scene at a banquet, angrily slapping a man across the face. For some reason, he becomes fascinated, clapping and cheering her on.
He should be looking for an excuse to divorce his wife, but instead he lets her humiliate him however she pleases, just to win a smile from his beloved.
As the years pass, she is finally forced to become gentle and considerate. But the one thing she refuses to do is talk to him. He panics, grabs a washboard, kneels before her, and angrily slaps himself across the face:
"My darling, don't ignore me~"
Short Scene:
In an overlooked corner, An Wanjun pins him firmly against the wall and demands, "Tonight, are you choosing the outer bed or the inner room?"
He Yichen takes the initiative, pressing his lips to hers. "I choose you, my darling~"
