Parody version:
"Author, what have you put into my life? Why is it so agonizing?"
"My reply, Your Majesty: time."
"Just transmigrating through time is enough to make me this hungry and force me to fight with everything I've got?"
"Yes, Your Majesty. Besides time, I've added some poverty, some events, and some conflict."
"You did this because you had malicious intentions, didn't you?"
"Yes, Your Majesty~ (Ah, no!)"
As a third-generation only child born into an affluent family in China in Generation Z, Anna was born with the perfect life already in hand. After graduating from college, she planned to go home and embrace the art of doing nothing. But in the blink of an eye, she found herself in a South American slum in the 1980s.
A father who'd been shot, a mother working to support the whole family, and a brother who might drop out of school and join a gang if you took your eyes off him for a second. The whole family couldn't afford food, yet could still dance samba when they heard music. Anna was stunned.
Wait, they were this poor and still knew how to enjoy themselves? Brazilians really had such a good attitude? ------------
This was the worst of times. After Latin America was exploited by the United States, poverty soared during the "lost decade." Border clashes and armed conflicts were frequent, and the gangs could even make the police back down.
It was also the best of times. Compulsory education and free healthcare remained in place, social classes had not become completely fixed, and college graduates were still valued. Hard work brought rewards, not punishment. To have a shot at a better life, Anna began the difficult journey out of poverty.
Serious version:
The favelas of Brazil, a place God had forgotten.
Drugs, drug trafficking, guns, hunger: these were woven into the blood and bones of the people who lived here.
How could anyone escape the quagmire of the slums? The experiences of successful people offered an answer: boys should play soccer, and girls should become models.
But that path was still too far away for ten-year-old Adriana. When an important breadwinner in her family was struck by a stray bullet in the street, life became even harder for a family already trapped at the bottom.
As her twin brother was about to join a street gang and make a living through robbery, Adriana saw another path to success in a dream, one from a great Eastern nation: a path that had lifted nearly one hundred million people out of poverty.
Note: The early story focuses on farming and making money; the middle and later story moves into the entertainment industry. There will be other love interests early on, but the endgame pairing is Kaka.
Theme: Hard work helps people grow.
