Yu Shu had worked in a big city for years without dating or getting married. He was nearly thirty and in no hurry, but his parents back home were desperate. After crying, making a scene, and threatening to kill themselves, they summoned him back to Binan to meet someone, get married, and have a child.
But he had no interest in that, and neither did his blind date, who already had a boyfriend. The two hit it off, pretending to be interested in each other to placate their families. As they kept up the act, he fell for Chu Tian, his blind date's boyfriend's friend.
·
Chu Tian was loyal and looked after his friends, but he came from a humble background and had dropped out of high school. He and Yu Shu, who had a master's degree, were worlds apart. Still, Yu Shu thought love shouldn't depend on status or rank. But his mother told him that with such a huge gap in their backgrounds and education, even if they were in love, they might not last.
And two men being together was already shocking in a small city.
But Chu Tian didn't care. All he cared about was that he liked him.

Blurb for My Daughter, the Heroine of an Angsty Romance:
When Ji Xixi's life was nearing its end, she encountered the System.
The System promised her a new life, but in exchange, she had to enter four angsty romance novels and save their heroines.
Xixi was too young to be a heroine herself, so she could only choose to become a heroine's daughter.
The first angsty romance:
The heroine's mother went to prison for the hero's father, only to discover upon her release that he had already married and had a child.
The heroine's mother took Xixi by the hand and forced her way back into her "home" to face off against the wicked woman, but she never won. Xixi had to help her mother get even and take her away from that "home."
They could have a home of their own.
The second angsty romance:
The heroine's mother was the family's eldest daughter, but she fell in love with a poor painter who tricked her out of her money and deceived her, until she eventually died in a dark, damp basement.
When Xixi entered the book, the heroine, an heiress, was still a teenager. Xixi did everything she could to become the heiress's adopted daughter, pushing her to study so she could face-slap the scumbag painter. But unexpectedly, the heiress fell in love with painting, and then with the poor painter.
Xixi rolled up her sleeves, clung to the heiress's arm, and said softly, "Mom, Xixi wants to learn to paint too."
From then on, the heiress was unable to escape the hell of teaching her daughter.
As for some young, handsome, sentimental, and melancholy painter, she knew nothing about him. Didn't know him, didn't care. Out of the way.
The third angsty romance:
The heroine's mother was the beloved fiancee of a young family head. There seemed to be nothing wrong. But the angsty romance had already reached its ending. By the time Xixi arrived, the heroine's mother had already suffered a stand-in, a car accident, amnesia, and a string of other tragedies. Now she was about to marry the younger brother of her enemy.
Xixi ran to the heroine's wedding and called out to the dazed woman, "Mom."
From then on, she took her amnesiac mother to art competitions, earned money to support her, helped her recover her memories, find her true enemy, and escape the young family head's control.
The fourth angsty romance:
The heroine's mother had nothing and struggled to survive at the very bottom of the city with Xixi, a little burden in tow. Soon, the second male lead would return with an insurmountable gambling debt, and the heroine's mother would reunite with the male lead and be caught in a painful struggle over her feelings. Xixi would either be sold by the second male lead or starve to death in their tiny rented room.
To help her mother escape the endless cycle of angsty romance, and to get away from her own tragic ending, Xixi packed up and started scavenging.
It was fine if Mom had no money. Xixi could earn money and support herself.
But perhaps a little girl scavenging was just too conspicuous.
One mom showed up.
Then a second mom showed up.
Then all three moms showed up.
She and the fourth mom stared at each other.
The fourth mom: "Just how many moms does Xixi have?"
Xixi sobbed to the System: "You said there'd be four books!"
The System said guiltily: [I never said they were four different worlds.]
