Black-hearted-on-the-inside, frail top × loyal guard bottom
Gu Zhao, the Emperor's seventh son, was a powerful contender for the throne.
He could compose poetry at four and learned archery at five.
At sixteen, he planted the Great Chu banner on the enemy's city wall.
Sadly, this astonishingly gifted, noble and radiant young man was sickly.
The reason was simple: Gu Zhao wasn't really the Seventh Prince. He was just playing an emperor-raising game. But after maxing out his literary and martial arts stats and entering the game, he discovered that his constitution stat was a miserable "1."
And so he became a sickly young man who was both a scholar and a warrior, yet coughed up blood every few steps...
At court, his face pale, he would hold back the urge to cough until his eyes turned red. The officials all sighed, "Such unwavering resolve. He can shoulder great responsibility."
At family banquets, he smiled and offered auspicious wishes, only to turn around and cough up blood. Even so, he held on until the banquet was over. The Emperor was deeply moved and exclaimed, "My son's filial devotion is clear to Heaven and Earth."
With just one bar of health left, Gu Zhao worked diligently to win over ministers and raise the Emperor's favor, and along the way, he saved someone who became his shadow guard. Gu Zhao named him Ying Yi.
The shadow guard was utterly loyal, devoted to following him and determined to become his most useful blade. Before Gu Zhao had even done anything, his affection had already reached 999.
Deeply moved, Gu Zhao patted the guard on the shoulder. "My good brother, let's be brothers for life!"
The shadow guard smiled faintly. "Giving my life for my master is the greatest honor I could ever receive."
Gu Zhao nodded solemnly. "Having you by my side is the greatest honor of my life, too."
He thought that his brotherly bond with Ying Yi would last forever.
That is, until one day, he opened his bedroom door and saw Ying Yi lying on his bed, completely naked.
Ying Yi's voice trembled, whether with shame or fear, he couldn't tell. "I give myself to my master."
Gu Zhao: What exactly do you mean by giving yourself to me???
