Pear Blossom's Deception

The story of King Liyun.

(No blurb. Here's a little excerpt instead. I'll upload it in a couple of days.)

A Li.

I stumbled outside in a daze and asked him, "Is this my new name? Did you give it to me?"

The boy seemed to pause for a moment. He crouched down and smiled as he picked up the cat to show me. It was the little white cat I'd given him earlier.

After its bath, the white cat's fur looked so fluffy and soft.

He lowered his head, stroking the cat's head as he said to me, "I called it A Li. Li as in 'fox cat.'"

Oh, so it was all a misunderstanding.

I woke up in an instant.

Awkwardly, I crouched beside him, watching his long-fingered hand glide through the white cat's soft fur, again and again... As if possessed, I cupped my slightly flushed cheeks and leaned toward him, then softly meowed under his astonished gaze.

He paused, then chuckled and reached out to stroke my head, too.

What should I do? My cheeks seem even hotter now. I quietly tried to hide them behind my hair.

But... can that really hide them?

Dreaming of pear blossoms ends in delusion; I am but duckweed, yet my thoughts still linger on those gray brows.

(This is an old short story I'm saving here. It's very short. I recently revised it a little, and I'll post it in installments, hoping to finish it soon.)

Theme: Growing pains.
