Leading Someone Astray

[An obedient, long-suffering, traditional wife X a sharp-tongued, patriarchal kingpin of Beijing's elite]

Lin Congwei has been married for three years and is as traditional as they come.

When her husband tells her to work as a live-in tutor at his boss's home, she knocks on the Zong family's door the very next day.

-

Zong Mingchen's nephew cannot be left alone.

The Zong family has hired women of every kind, beautiful and alluring, but none have stayed.

Then a subordinate recommends his own wife.

An oval face, willow-leaf brows, a soft-spoken manner. Even when she's wronged, all she does is lower her head.

Zong Mingchen takes one look.

So honest and meek. She won't last more than a few days.

Who would have thought that later, his nephew couldn't do without her, and neither could the Zong family?

In the end, Lin Congwei is the one who wants to leave.

Her husband has been unfaithful. She wants a divorce, but has no idea how to live afterward.

Zong Mingchen puts out his cigarette. "You're too obedient. It's boring. Men won't like someone like you."

Watching Lin Congwei turn deathly pale, he calmly adds,

"Stay. I'll teach you."

-

Later, Lin Congwei learns to say no and to make men wait. At last, she stops being so compliant and blossoms into a dazzling flower.

More and more men pursue her, even her ex-husband, who once treated her like trash, comes back red-eyed, begging to reconcile.

Zong Mingchen sits nearby, watching her coldly.

"After all this time teaching you, all you've learned is to jump from one lousy man to another?"

Lin Congwei's face turns red. "Who I choose is none of your business, Mr. Zong."

"Now you've learned to talk back, too." Zong Mingchen laughs in exasperation.

"You've barely got a rebellious bone in your body, but you save all your nerve for me."

-

The first lesson he teaches her is not to listen to men too much.

Later, Lin Congwei learns that lesson well.

Especially when it comes to him.
