The sea slug, also known as the little white rabbit of the deep sea.
Soft and harmless in appearance, it invites covetous eyes. But any predator that tries to capture it or take whatever it wants will eventually be poisoned by the toxins it has built up, and leave empty-handed.
Bai Lan is the little white rabbit in everyone's eyes.
He was an ordinary young painter living a quiet life, until his elders died suddenly and their inheritance fell into his hands, plunging him overnight into a deep sea of fame and fortune.
People came one after another, coveting his looks and scheming to get their hands on his collection and old mansion. Everyone assumed he was mild-mannered and naive, someone they could easily deceive and manipulate.
He had never wanted to scheme against or frame anyone.
But if someone came at him with greed, pressing him step by step, he would quietly absorb every attack and watch coldly as their own insatiable desires dragged them into a trap.
One schemer after another met defeat. Rumors gradually spread through the art world: Bai Lan might seem gentle and mild, but he's not someone to mess with. Get too close, and you'll only bring trouble on yourself.
Then Lu Yu, an investor in an art gallery, entered his field of vision.
Bai Lan raised layer upon layer of defenses, just as he did against every visitor with ulterior motives.
Only this was the first time someone had come along who coveted neither his wealth nor his looks, and who calmly evaded every test and defensive wall he put up.
Bai Lan was filled with unease.
Was this man truly free of desire, or did he harbor a deeper ambition, one impossible to fathom?
The deep sea's waves never cease, and everyone hunts the little white rabbit.
No one knows that, deep beneath the waves, a solitary island has stood in silence for a long time, waiting for the wary rabbit to let down its guard and slowly draw near.
