Blue Star has plunged into an extreme freeze. The law has lost all meaning, and humanity is forced to huddle together in settlements cut off from one another by wind and snow.
Bai Ji is one of the people known as "Carrier Pigeons," who travel between settlements.

Though every day is a struggle to survive, Bai Ji makes the best of things, until Carrier Pigeon headquarters assigns He Xunfeng, a lieutenant colonel medically discharged after being wounded, to his team.
The first time they meet, He Xunfeng sneers at Bai Ji: "My old rival, the top student at military academy, has now sunk so low that he's become a courier."
Bai Ji takes back the hand he'd been about to offer in reconciliation to his old nemesis. "Better than being a useless cripple who can't even carry a gun anymore."

After nearly getting killed by monsters for the fourth time, He Xunfeng finally regrets his arrogance.
Bai Ji saves his life from a snow monster and magnanimously says, "Call me Big Brother, and I'll let you have my weapon."
He Xunfeng would rather die than bow his head to Bai Ji. Before he can even curse him out, Bai Ji tosses him the only firearm he has.
Then Bai Ji floors the accelerator, driving off in a blaze of snow and wind with the snow monster chasing after his vehicle.
That leaves He Xunfeng, whose legs aren't working properly, in the snow, staring down the few snow monsters left.
He curses Bai Ji's ancestors for eighteen generations, then, after overcoming countless dangers and taking out the snow monsters, discovers that Bai Ji has actually come back. Bai Ji reaches out to He Xunfeng, who's lying in the snow.
"How are you still alive?" Bai Ji has a fresh, bloody claw mark on him. He whistles at He Xunfeng. "Come on, get in."

After following Bai Ji for three years, He Xunfeng has completely given up on returning to headquarters.
There's nothing wrong with being a courier. Fighting monsters is the same wherever you do it. Headquarters has everything, but he can't stand the thought of a life without Bai Ji.
"You like me?" Bai Ji casually shoots the snow monster coveting A City's emergency supplies, not even sparing He Xunfeng a glance. "Forget it, Old He. I only date people stronger than me."
