Xiao Kou'er was born from an affair between a palace maid and a guard. As soon as he was born, his parents were beaten to death with clubs.
The infant Xiao Kou'er was ordered to be thrown into a well and drowned, but the old eunuch assigned to dispose of him took pity on him and raised him himself.

But the small sedan did not carry him to Prince Wei's courtyard. It took him to the emperor's bedchamber.
