Synopsis
On the outskirts of Jiangcheng stands a psychiatric hospital shrouded in dense fog and forgotten by the world: Asylum No. 13. It houses patients with the most bizarre behavior and strangest case histories. Their attending physician, Xu Mingqi, is the hospital's most unusual "doctor." He never asks questions during consultations, prescribing treatment using nothing but an old, yellowed book and a cinnabar brush, yet he can cure "hysteria" that leaves even modern medicine helpless.
The newly arrived nurse, Qiu Yingying, soon discovers that the truth about the hospital is far more absurd than its case files: footsteps wandering the halls at midnight, nursery rhymes repeated in patients' sleep-talk, and the perpetually locked third basement level... The prescription slips covered in strange symbols in Xu Mingqi's desk drawer seem to be closely connected to multiple "paper bride" disappearances in Jiangcheng over the past century.
When Qiu Yingying unexpectedly finds a faded wedding invitation bearing her own name in the morgue, she realizes with horror that she has long been part of the "ritual." Xu Mingqi gazes into her eyes and, for the first time, drops his calm facade. "If you want to live, remember this: in this hospital, the craziest person is often the most clearheaded."
