Bank president x spoiled orphaned heiress
Liang Tingbai, male, president of Lihua Bank in Shanghai. Wealthy and powerful, he enjoys counting money at work, listening to music at the Paramount, and "bullying" his little darling wife at home.
Yue Tangyin, female, a country girl from Ningning who wears coarse clothes. She once dreamed of becoming a singer, and her life's ambition was to become Shanghai's "Golden Voice."
But when her family suddenly fell on hard times, she became a tool for her deadbeat father to pay off his debts.
So Tangyin, who had wanted to be a singer, could only stay at Liang's estate every day and sing for Liang Tingbai.
Liang Tingbai loved hearing Tangyin sing, and loved "bullying" her even more.
Every time a song ended, he would always ask her in a low voice whether she'd missed him during the day.
If she dared say no, he'd start "bullying" her in every way until she changed her answer to yes.
Everyone said that Tangyin, an orphaned girl the Yue family had used to pay off a debt, should keep her head down at Liang's estate instead of throwing spoiled rich-girl tantrums.
Little did they know that Liang Tingbai had spoiled her into acting like a young lady.
Liang's estate, in Shanghai's French Concession, was a luxurious mansion Liang Tingbai had built at great expense to pamper Tangyin...
Excerpt 1:
One day, Liang Tingbai went north on a business trip. Tangyin's urge to sing got the better of her, so she dragged a few girlfriends to the Paramount to perform.
Onstage, she covered her face with a veil so she wouldn't be recognized. Her voice rose and fell, as if singing a plaintive tale, while the audience below clapped and shouted, "Encore! Encore!"
After the song, Tangyin hurried back to the dressing room, which was already in chaos. The dance hall manager was making small talk with a big-shot businessman.
When their conversation ended, the big shot turned around, his expression unreadable. It was none other than Liang Tingbai, whom she hadn't seen in days.
Liang Tingbai pulled a stack of US dollars from the lining of his suit and threw them at Tangyin. "Miss Tang, since you love singing so much, why not come home with me and sing to your heart's content?"
Tangyin picked up the money and gave a dry laugh. "President Liang, you're too kind."
She thought, I'm doomed.
They'd been apart for over a month. Would tonight be the night the thunder struck and the earth caught fire?
Reader advisory:
This story is entirely fictional and shares a setting with Don't Let Down My Song. One-on-one romance, both leads have only ever been with each other, happy ending, sweet romance, around a hundred thousand words.
There isn't much dramatic plot or emotional turmoil. It's a sweet romance with plenty of explicit scenes, and a happy ending.
