After graduating from the police academy, the dispirited Officer Matsuda discovered that he could see yokai.
"Please help us! We need to cross the river."
"Sure."
"Please help us! We need to go home."
"Sure."
"Please help us! We need to undergo our tribulation."
"Sure."
"Please help us! We like you."
"Huh? No."
Kindhearted Officer Matsuda still couldn't refuse the little creatures' requests. They were just small favors, so he helped them one by one.
Until a deafening explosion rocked the Asai villa, and the curly-haired young man downstairs cried out without thinking.
"Don't die... Hagi!"
"We'll help you, Officer Matsuda!" The fluffy yokai were thrilled.
Hagiwara miraculously survived. Under everyone's scrutiny, he gave an awkward laugh. "Well, um, that protective suit is pretty good quality. It can withstand an explosion."
When he happened to run into his blond classmate, Matsuda noticed a miniature Hiromitsu clinging to the man's shoulder.
The pitch-black monster tried its best to make itself inconspicuous.
"Good morning, Matsuda."
"Good morning, Hiro."
Furuya whipped around. "Huh? Who are you talking to, you curly-haired jerk?!"
A speeding vehicle careened out of control toward the burly man.
"Natalie, don't be sad..."
Then, bizarrely, the vehicle stopped right in front of him and didn't move.
Date said nothing. Later, when people pressed him about the accident, he said, "Well, um, the car ran out of gas and stopped just as it got to me."
"You'll only get to see the information in the last second before the bomb explodes!" the sneering criminal threatened the righteous officer.
Officer Matsuda set down his bomb-disposal tools, calmly pulled out a book, and flipped to the relevant yokai entry.
"Go! Great Tengu!"
I just love defusing bombs. Actually, I have plenty of ways to deal with these little problems that aren't worth worrying about.
* Not really connected to the other Book of Friends, though the concept is similar.
* There are original character interpretations and OOC moments; the timeline is all over the place.
* Lighthearted, with a focus on everyday life. I still love tragic, powerful characters, so they might accidentally show up.
* Features a harem of yokai (?) infatuated with the protagonist. Read with caution.
