"Mingzhuang: Red Candle Tribulation"
——Spiritual sequel to the Paper Wedding Dress Series
Introduction to the work
In the twelfth year of the Republic of China, a strange nursery rhyme circulated in Jiangzhou City: "The eyes of the paper man are painted without finishing the eyes, and the curtains are not lifted until the red candle is extinguished." Nie Zifu, an archaeologist who returned from studying abroad, sneaked into the town of Wangchuan in the mountains of southwest China to investigate a "ghost marriage case" in an ancient town, but unexpectedly met the local mysterious ghost bride--Qiu Yingying. The tips of her fingertips are as red as blood, and she is specially designed to draw makeup and set the soul for the dead. Living people must stay away from her for three feet when they see her.
An unknown female corpse, a deliberately erased "red candle wedding", drag the two people into a series of strange events: the midnight sound of the bride-price box, the red-clad bride-grooming team reflected in the well, and those who gradually disappeared in the mirror. The "alive" paper man... Nie Zifu discovered that all the clues pointed to Qiu Yingying's long-dead twin sister. Every time Qiu Yingying dressed up in the mirror, the figure in the mirror would quietly shift an inch.
"Are you sure that 'I' standing in front of you is really a living person?" As the candlelight flickered, Qiu Yingying's smile was filled with blood. When the "Red Candle Tribulation" of the ancient town's hundreds of years of reincarnation comes again, the boundary between the living and the dead suddenly collapses. Nie Zifu must find the only way to survive from countless false "ghost marriage" illusions within seven nights - and the key is actually hidden under Qiu Yingying's "yin and yang makeup" that is half human and half ghost...
