The Old Days in Minhou
On an old street in Minhou County, lined with mango trees, fourteen-year-old Hou Yaru first learned what it meant to love someone she couldn't have. She sat behind Yang Xiaodong in class, hiding the eraser he dropped as if it were a huge secret, but his eyes always turned toward another girl. Later, a fight between the boys brought everything to an abrupt end. Yang Xiaodong died in a narrow alley, taking with him words she would never get to hear.
