A Wall Street dad, a doctor mom, a lawyer older brother: this high-IQ family somehow produced a hidden-variant academic underachiever.
Xi Yu is that dumb kid.
Xi Yu hates school, and hates his high school classmate Bai Yan even more.
Bai Yan is incredibly smart, gets top grades, and is so focused on competition problems when walking that he doesn't even notice it's raining. He walks all the way back to the dorm in the rain.
"Bai Jiahao," Xi Yu tells his friend.
He turns around and meets Bai Yan's dark eyes. Bai Yan looks down on him as if he were garbage.
At last, graduation comes, and Xi Yu won't have to see Bai Yan anymore. But on the first day of college, Xi Yu comes home after class and opens the door to find Bai Yan sitting on his family's sofa.
While Xi Yu is still confused, his mother shows him a paternity test.
"The hospital switched the babies at birth. Bai Yan is actually our son."
Xi Yu's vision goes black.
-
Xi Yu has no intention of leaving.
A big house, meals made by the housekeeper, his parents' supplementary credit card: once he leaves, all of it will go to Bai Yan.
On the day the real and fake young masters switch places, they ride in the same car and get into an accident. Xi Yu breaks his arm, and Bai Yan gets a brain injury.
Bai Yan asks, bewildered, "Who are you?"
"I'm..." Xi Yu's mind races. "I'm your boyfriend!"
"We're dating, secretly. No one else knows."
"So you have to convince your parents not to send me away."
Bai Yan stares at him strangely.
After a long while, he finally says, "Okay."
-
Bai Yan has Asperger's syndrome. He's like a still pond, unable to understand ordinary people's emotions.
After the car accident, a concussion briefly left him unable to remember things. Xi Yu mistakenly thought he had amnesia and claimed to be his boyfriend.
The handsome boy who was usually arrogant and snappish suddenly does a 180, sweetly calling him "darling."
Bai Yan feels nothing inside.
He doesn't understand any of it, so he simply goes along with what the other person says.
Xi Yu says they should go on a movie date, and Bai Yan plays along.
Xi Yu asks him to be his errand boy, and Bai Yan plays along.
Xi Yu tells him to hand over his credit card, and Bai Yan plays along.
One day, Xi Yu is on the phone with a friend and says, "Sigh, I think it's wrong to mess with Bai Yan's feelings like this. It'll be awkward if our families find out, too. Maybe I should break up with him..."
As a good boyfriend, Bai Yan waits quietly until he finishes the call, then walks in and locks the door behind him.
Xi Yu watches him slowly undo his buttons. "What are you doing?"
Bai Yan tosses aside his shirt, takes Xi Yu by the wrist, and affectionately kisses his fingers.
As if he can't understand a word, he doesn't soothe Xi Yu or stop all night.
