The Ghost Marriage Wedding Dress
Synopsis
In the Republican era, isolated villages still upheld the terrifying old custom of ghost marriage. Qiu Yingying had lived under other people's roof since childhood. Her birth details were unusual, and the village shaman branded her a "spirit-marriage type," declaring that she was destined to be promised to someone who had died young, in order to appease the resentment of the ancestral graves and bring blessings to the village.
On the seventeenth day of the first lunar month, Lin Zifu, the eldest grandson of the village's wealthy Lin family, returned from studying abroad. Handsomely dressed in a Western suit and refined in manner, he despised the village's backward customs. On the day he returned home, he came across Qiu Yingying, who had fled into the hills in a panic to escape her ghost marriage. In a ruined temple on a rainy night, they met for the first time. He gave her an umbrella, but she turned deathly pale and warned him in a trembling voice, "Run... They're going to marry me to you..."
It turned out that the one who had died young in the Lin family was none other than Lin Zifu himself. Seven years earlier, when he had fallen gravely ill and was on the brink of death, his family had entered his name in the family register and buried him in an empty tomb. But he miraculously recovered and went abroad. The villagers, however, insisted that he was already one of the dead and needed a ghost bride before his soul could truly return to the ancestral graves. Qiu Yingying was the bride they had chosen.
Strange things began happening one after another. Every night, a blood-red wedding dress embroidered with the character "Lin" appeared in Qiu Yingying's room. Lin Zifu kept seeing himself dressed in burial clothes in the mirror. And the village elders whispered, "A ghost marriage between two living people is the most terrible curse of all..."
To break the curse, the two had no choice but to join forces and investigate the secrets of the old Lin family home and the village's burial hill. The clues pointed to a damaged copy of the Register of Ghost Marriages, a mysterious funeral seven years ago, and a truth more blood-soaked than any ghost marriage... When the suona sounded again at midnight and Qiu Yingying was forced to put on a paper wedding dress and walk toward the graveyard, who would be waiting beside the coffin: Lin Zifu, with his chilling gaze, or the "him" who had been buried seven years ago?
The ghost marriage is sealed. A living person marries a living person: who is the ghost in the coffin?
