Possessive pursuit | Bitter love | Lovers turned enemies and back again
Scheming beauty × unruly warlord
Gu Lingyin, the Fifth Young Lady of the Duke of Zhenguo’s household, was born stunningly beautiful, bright and captivating. But from childhood, she knew that beauty was no blessing. It was a curse.
She wasn’t really Gu Lingyin, but a wandering soul from another world. The moment she opened her eyes, she witnessed a murder. The victim was the biological father of the body she now inhabited, and the killer was the man who would later become her father in name.
A Yin didn’t want to spend her whole life trapped in a cage, so she arranged two marriages for herself. Both were ruined by her younger sister, Gu Yushu. Beauty was a curse, but it could also be a blade. Since Gu Yushu had wrecked her marriage prospects, she ought to compensate her with another match.
But the chance encounter A Yin had carefully planned didn’t work out. Instead, she ran into a lecher.
A few days later, A Yin saw the lecher again at the estate and discovered he was actually her elder brother, Gu Junchi, who had been missing for four years. A smile she couldn’t understand played on his exquisitely handsome face. “Little sister A Yin, it’s been a while.”
While Gu Junchi was away from Luojing, A Yin finally got her stepmother to approve her marriage. But to her surprise, Gu Junchi returned to the capital overnight and cornered her between the pillars of a corridor. “A daughter repaying her father’s debts is only right.”
“Your little sister has nothing else to offer. But I do rather like this body.” He bent down, his lips brushing her ear. “Why not let me have what I want?”
A Yin didn’t dare stay another moment. She fled in the middle of the night, but fell and hit her head along the way, losing her memories.
--
When she awoke, the first thing she saw was a strange man keeping watch beside her bed. His sideburns were as sharply trimmed as a blade, his brows like ink paintings, and his eyes like jade submerged in a frozen pool.
When he learned she couldn’t remember anything, the frost in his gaze softened into tenderness. “A Yin, I’m your husband.”
A Yin decided Gu Junchi wasn’t so bad. Though his moods were unpredictable, he never deprived her of food or clothing, nor did he restrict her freedom. Only at night did he always demand too much, leaving her unable to keep up.
At last, with Gu Junchi away from the capital, A Yin went out. A man grabbed her wrist in the street. His eyes were bloodshot as he called to her in a trembling voice.
“I’m Ji Lan, your fiancé. Don’t you remember?”
Her memories came rushing back like a tide.
When disaster struck the Duke of Zhenguo’s household, she had helped fan the flames. Gu Junchi had fallen off a cliff, leaving no body behind.
--
Red candles burned bright. A Yin sat in the bridal chamber, feeling neither joy nor sorrow.
The veil was lifted. The man before her smiled warmly, yet A Yin felt as if she had fallen into an icy abyss.
“I didn’t die. Are you very disappointed, A Yin?”
Gu Junchi took the gold hairpin from her hand and leaned close to whisper, “Don’t do anything foolish, A Yin. Even if you don’t care about Ji Lan’s life, you should at least think of your mother. She’s always thinking of you, her daughter.”
A Yin wiped the tears from her face, her eyes alluring. “The night is long, and the dew is heavy. Second Brother, you should take good care of yourself.”

3. Alternate history, countless author-created details; everything serves the plot.
4. Possessive pursuit, lovers turned enemies and back again, outrageously melodramatic. Don’t read if that’s not your thing.
