And so Qin Shou, the original story's male lead, and Min Zhao, the “former betrothed,” both become Shi Yu's disciples.
Shi Yu thinks she can finally focus on her mission, but then...
Because Shi Yu gives Qin Shou one extra bottle, Min Zhao goes into qi deviation that very night, vomiting blood all over the floor and nearly ruining his cultivation.
Frightened, Shi Yu gets up in the middle of the night to refine medicine, wondering as she works whether she has been too biased.
From then on, whatever Qin Shou gets, Min Zhao gets as well.
When the demons invade and Shi Yu is surrounded, Min Zhao suddenly appears to take a blow for her. His white robes are stained with blood, yet he smiles tenderly.
“As long as Master is safe.”
Shi Yu's heart tightens, and she reaches out to catch him as he sways.
His bloodied fingertips brush gently across her face, his voice beguiling.
“Master was worried about me, weren't you?”
Qin Shou: ...Was that little wound really so serious?
The three of them slay demons and evil spirits together, cross the Blood Mist Forest, traverse the endless sea, and at last find a clue to ascending to immortality.
In the deepest reaches of the demon realm, purple-gold heavenly lightning gathers. Shi Yu stands amid a sea of blood, holding a divine weapon.
One step forward will help Qin Shou ascend to immortality. One step back will shield Min Zhao from the tribulation lightning.
In the depths of the lightning, Min Zhao is still smiling. He refuses to believe he will lose again in this life.
[Bonus Scene]
When Shi Yu's soul first enters this world, the System is thrown to the far shore of the endless sea and forced to bind itself to a mortal. After countless hardships, it finally guides the mortal across the endless sea and into Mingyue Sect, where he meets Shi Yu.
Pointing at Min Zhao, the mortal starts to reveal the truth: “Shi Yu, he's actually...” But he suddenly freezes in place.
Min Zhao stands across from him, still smiling, but a layer of golden light has covered his eyes, as if an abyss were slowly opening its eyes.
The System's mechanical voice rings frantically in the mortal's mind: Warning! Energy signature detected that exceeds the world's rules
The warning is abruptly cut off.
Min Zhao's voice forces its way into the man's mind, cold as the depths of the netherworld: “If you don't want to disappear completely, be quiet.”
System: ...Now offline. Have a nice day.
Shi Yu looks at the mortal, then turns to Min Zhao. “A Zhao, you...”
Min Zhao leans against Shi Yu, looking aggrieved. “Master, he's so mean to me.”
