Synopsis
Synopsis:
A CP pairing: a charming, flirtatious bar owner who coaxes people with her seductive ways × a gloomy, eerie, sinister psychologist
As a notorious playboy on the romantic scene, He Wenyu was famous in her circle for fearing nothing. The year her bar opened, she swung a liquor bottle and got into a brawl in the middle of the night. In the eyes of her many adoring fans, she was rich, wild, cool, and irresistibly cocky. Her character seemed straight out of a wish-fulfillment story: devilishly alluring and recklessly bold, the fiercest top of all.
But even the fiercest top has a sad story. After her girlfriend of eight years cheated on her, the woman said with a perfectly serious look of surprise, "Oh, so you're a lesbian? Weren't we just roommates?"
After ending the eight-year relationship, Boss He decided not to lose herself in love again. A curly-haired, long-haired, handsome butch like her, with a slim waist, long legs, and a great ass, surely had no reason to worry about winning the affection of younger girls. On the night of the bar's anniversary celebration, she got roaring drunk, swayed onstage, and shouted that she, the bar's owner and resident butch, would personally be up for auction tonight, so the girls could bid to their hearts' content.
Amid the wild revelry, her mind grew hazy. She could just make out a scent of agarwood mixed with cold snow. She had spent years learning about fragrances, but had never smelled a perfume like it. Unable to resist, she rubbed her nose against the person's neck and took another sniff. It was strange: the perfume had a cool profile, so why did it smell so sexy, deep, and gentle?
When Boss He woke from her hangover, her head was splitting, her waist ached, her legs felt weak, and her whole body was sore, as if she'd stayed up all night doing ten sets of leg exercises. She came to in a hotel room, with a hundred thousand yuan in cash inexplicably added to her bag.
He Wenyu had always been a simple-hearted, bold sort. After getting drunk at the bar, finding a hotel and sleeping there was nothing unusual for her, so she didn't give much thought to where the hundred thousand yuan had come from.
Just when she thought she could keep living this wild life forever, she accompanied a friend's wife to see a psychologist and met a bewitching monster who had come to claim her.
Ever since He Wenyu had figured out her sexual orientation, she felt her tastes had always been simple: she liked younger schoolgirls who were fair-skinned, pretty, soft, sweet, and harmless. Especially as she got older, she was long past the age of wanting an older sister to dote on her. She was already over thirty. If she went looking for an older woman now, that would mean setting her sights on a cleaner in her forties or fifties, and she just couldn't bring herself to do it. So she decided, like her best friend Tang Hengzhi, that even if she was going to date women, she'd find a sweet, soft younger girl and bring out her big-sister side to the fullest.
He Wenyu had feared nothing since childhood. The one thing that scared her was the ghosts and supernatural lore of Chinese horror. Back in middle school, while everyone else was captivated by the ethereal beauty and refined aura of a goddess, she already felt a chill at the thought of those ghostly beauties from ancient tombs and kept well away from them.
Then one drunken, outrageous night, she muddleheadedly slept with an older woman called "Ms. Cuihua." Her best friend Tang Hengzhi's wife said she had probably gotten drunk and lost all shame, then taken the bar's cleaner home.
Boss He was trembling inside. Surely that couldn't be right? Even if she got drunk, she couldn't change her tastes and go for a woman older than herself.
Later, amid the fuss over paying back the money, she finally met the so-called "Ms. Cuihua." Her gentle, neighborly, Hong Kong-style outfit couldn't conceal the ghostly aura surrounding her. Her skin was so pale that even the sunlight brought out no hint of warmth. Sitting in her modern, upscale studio and sipping coffee, with silver-rimmed glasses and narrow eyes, she looked just like a female ghost in Lanruo Temple, ready to suck the life out of someone.
He Wenyu had always thought all those descriptions were just words in her own head. Then Ms. Cuihua set down her coffee and introduced herself calmly: "Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Lu Xingqing, Lord of the Underworld and King of Ten Thousand Ghosts. In other words, I'm the hidden villain in the story of your friend's comic, The Imperial Preceptor."
The moment He Wenyu's jaw hit the floor, she felt her soul had already returned to the Underworld. Damn, Xiao San Yuan had really made it big! She'd drawn a comic and given her a ghost wife!
Why did her best friend get a normal, sweet little everyday-life story about an estranged couple getting back together, while the moment she became the protagonist, she ended up trapped in a bizarre, supernatural never-ending story?
Her lifelong taste, which she had once sworn would protect her ironclad top status and find her a sweet, soft younger girl, was completely overturned in that moment.
Who says a woman in her thirties can't find an older sister? She'd found herself a thunderous older sister who had lived for a thousand years, and the kind who needed a bite guard to keep from biting people in bed.
He Wenyu thought she needed fast-acting heart medication.
Author's note: This is an ensemble spin-off, featuring the secondary CP from September's Wish. The CP is called "A Hundred Thousand Yuan."
Content warning: He Wenyu has an ex, and the ex is a real jerk, but she is not an important character.
Theme: People come and go; don't forget, and don't lose what matters.
