The thing Qiao Lian regretted most in her life was going with her mother into that rental apartment reeking of cooking fumes.

Each thought she was an unwanted bonus in the other's life.

Lu Xi thought this rich young lady was like a stray rag doll: seemingly elegant and refined, but a pretty vase with nothing going for her besides her looks.

Then, one night after a live performance, her stepsister went off the grid and couldn't be reached all day. Lu Xi thought she was going to go wild again, chasing the kind of angsty teenage romance found in youth fiction. But after a few nights away, the rag doll came back covered in mud, washed herself clean, and turned into a sweet little golden retriever.

Qiao Lian had a crush that lasted less than a year on someone who nearly became her stepmother. The relationship went nowhere before the college entrance exams. Although they never actually became mother and daughter, she had at least called her "Mom" a few times.

Later, when Qiao Lian rebelled in high school and got a lip piercing, her stepsister got a tongue piercing. When Qiao Lian played guitar, her stepsister learned bass. When Qiao Lian started hanging out with delinquents, her stepsister got into fights and became a school bully. Once, as Qiao Lian walked through an alley after school, the little punks under her stepsister's command even tried to shake her down.

Later, Qiao Lian reformed for the sake of her kind stepmother, put away her claws and fangs, and became a well-behaved house dog. So her stepsister got bangs and a student haircut, gave up her life as a school bully, and went from last in the class to first in the entire grade. She skipped grades until she was in the same class as Qiao Lian, sitting right beside her.

Qiao Lian thought this relationship, in which they couldn't stand the sight of each other, would continue until she was laid out in her coffin.

But one day, her stepsister put on an innocent, harmless face and joined her in shyly calling someone "Little Mom."

It was like they were visiting her parents, and her stepsister was even carrying two cases of JDB herbal tea.

P.S. The mother in the blended family is Qiao Lian's biological mother. The little mom Qiao Lian had a crush on is someone else. She's in her early twenties, has a wife, and has her own pairing.
