Takegiri Ichika grew up in an organization where everyone wore black every day and reeked of blood. She didn't like them.
When she was sixteen, she improved the traditional bombs used by the organization: one-fifth smaller, but just as powerful. The Boss was delighted, gave her a private lab and a codename, and put her in charge of developing new explosives.
To minimize casualties, she carefully controlled the amount of explosive used, struggling to balance the organization’s missions against her own sense of guilt. She walked a tightrope among piles of gunpowder and made it to the age of twenty-three.
Then, at a mission site, she discovered that a stranger had taken apart the bomb she had just planted. He spotted what was wrong with it at a glance. "Not enough explosive. It won't cause mass casualties."
They met again at an exhibition, where she learned his name was Matsuda Jinpei, a police officer in the bomb disposal unit.
Their shared interests brought them closer. When the organization’s top killer began to catch on, Takegiri Ichika decided to blow up the distillery to protect him.
