(I’m terrible at titles, so I’m using this blurb as the title for now. I’ll slowly revise the title after I finish the blurb... I really don’t know how to come up with titles. I can only churn out variations on the same one QWQ)
Wen Lai, a Chinese boy with black hair and black eyes, accidentally ended up in Gotham when he was fourteen.
He moved in with the famous philanthropist Bruce Wayne and officially became part of the Wayne family.
From then on, he had an elder who seemed like a playboy on the surface but was actually mature and dependable, and who inexplicably disappeared every night; older brothers with wildly different personalities and no blood ties to him; and a younger brother with a bit of a temper.
But lately, Wen Lai has been troubled. His family is acting weird.
When he makes a phone call, his brother eavesdrops by the door.
He can even see his emails being intercepted. Besides his brother, who’s good with computers, he can’t think of anyone else who’d do that.
Whenever he wants to go out with friends, his family acts like they’re facing a major crisis.
He barely gets one foot out the door before someone nearby shouts, "No!"
They even say things like, "A fake bone is still a bone," and, "We’re not really father and son."
What does that mean?
Wen Lai is troubled. Wen Lai is uneasy. Could his family have finally gotten sick of him being a useless freeloader and decided to kick him out so he can fend for himself?
The Big Bat has been troubled lately because one of his adopted sons seems to have a crush.
Although twenty is hardly too young for a relationship, he still thinks his adopted son is naive. How can a twenty-year-old start fighting with his family over dating?
So the Bat family held an emergency meeting.
Nightwing: "It’s not that Xiao Lai can’t date, but..."
Red Hood: "His partner has to be me."
Red Robin: "No incest. Fake bones are still bones."
Nightwing: "Xiao Lai was never formally adopted. At most, we’re childhood friends."
The Big Bat considered this. "Oh."
"I saw him go to Arkham. Could his crush be the Joker?"
The Big Bat was weighed down with worry.
"I also saw him go to a famous couples’ restaurant with a reporter from Metropolis."
The Big Bat stayed calm.
"He went to an amusement park with the Flash!"
The Big Bat furrowed his brow.
"..."
Everyone exchanged glances.
The family meeting was interrupted when Wen Lai poked his head in through the doorway. "I’m heading out!"
Then he heard them all say in unison, "No!"
Wen Lai: "Huh?"
Reading Guide:
1. All characters are interested in the protagonist. Her love interests may include, but aren’t limited to, the ones mentioned in the blurb. The whole Bat family is on offer, and the main story will have an open ending.
2. Although the protagonist is a Bat-kid, no formal adoption has taken place and there are no blood ties. He will have no intimate contact with anyone while underage, nor will he have romantic feelings for much older adults while underage.
3. My own assembled little universe, with mountains of headcanons and massive OOC.
4. The author is fully supportive of the Bat family, the Justice League, and the Teen Titans.
5. As usual, this is my kind of relationship-focused story, with little plot and lots of daily life and romance.
6. Please respect one another. Don’t mention other authors’ stories or any ships other than the protagonist-with-everyone pairing in this story. Please don’t derail the discussion. No character substitution or self-insert dream fic. If the author sees any of that, it will probably trigger a comment-deletion spree.
Theme: Sincerity, sincerity.
