A Northern Song Dynasty Pork Loin Record

Lin Shuyao woke to a burst of noise, her head aching as if she had been struck by a heavy hammer. She slowly opened her eyes. Above her was an old wooden ceiling beam, and she was covered with a coarse blanket. The faint smell of firewood filled the room.

She sat bolt upright, terrified. She had clearly been visiting an exhibition of Northern Song artifacts at a museum. How had she opened her eyes in this strange place?

Before she could make sense of anything, a middle-aged woman in rough cloth clothes walked in. When she saw Lin Shuyao awake, delight spread across her face. "Darling, you're finally awake! You gave your mother such a fright."

Lin Shuyao froze. The woman claimed to be her mother, but Lin Shuyao had never seen her before. After the woman explained everything, she learned that she had transmigrated to the Northern Song dynasty and become the adopted daughter of this household. The original owner had accidentally fallen into a river, and when she woke up, another soul had taken her place.
