I Shouldn't Have Messed with a Lonely Widower

Older man | Romantic tension | Reunited after years apart | He goes mad chasing his wife

Clever, beautiful fox 🦊 x obsessive, corrupted wolf 🐺

Sang Zhu was lost as a child and adopted by a married couple.

Her life was neither good nor bad, until one day she happened to overhear the couple plotting to sell her to a wealthy local landowner. They could make a tidy sum and wouldn't have to keep feeding her.

Sang Zhu was thunderstruck. She steeled herself and set her sights on the young scholar who had recently arrived in town.

She hadn't expected it to be easy, but the usually aloof and proud man was surprisingly easy to win over.

However, after they married, Sang Zhu discovered that he was quite strange in private.

Sometimes brooding, sometimes clingy, but most often possessed of an appalling need to control her, along with another desire that could never be satisfied. His needs in every way were more than she could handle.

Just then, her family, who lived far away in the capital, found her.

Without hesitation, she waited until her husband was away for a few days, left him a divorce letter, and departed with her family. She had no intention of ever returning.

A stunningly beautiful young cousin came to live at the Ji residence, with glossy hair, a slender waist, and a graceful figure.

The concubines in the rear courtyard sneered, "She looks like a little vixen."

But no matter how seductive she might be, there was no one in the Ji residence for her to tempt.

The master was frail and bedridden, and although the old master was in good health, he was already in his seventies.

The eldest son had died young, and the second son, who had only been found outside the family two years ago, was the only able-bodied man in the household.

But he was eight years older than her and a widower who had no interest in women at all.

The widower seemed cold and taciturn, but he was a devoted man. His late wife was the woman he had married while living away from home. He rarely spoke of her by day, but at night he called her name over and over.

Even the last time he caught a chill and became delirious with fever, he still cried, "Qingqing, don't leave me."

So the women of the rear courtyard weren't worried that this coquettish young cousin would try anything untoward. Instead, they fretted over how the Ji family would ever continue its bloodline.

But no one expected that one day, strange sounds would come from behind the screen in Ji Chen's room.

Along with a crisp slap came a low, stern scolding: "Stay bent over and don't move."

Then a skirt hem, clearly crumpled from being gripped and kneaded, emerged from the edge of the screen.

No one knew when it began, but the young master of the Ji family had candles flickering in his room every night.

No one knew that the widower, who had been grieving his wife for years and kept himself restrained in public, would confine the fragile, shrinking woman within his bed curtains after nightfall, his expression feverish and entranced as he kissed her from head to toe.

"Qingqing, have you forgotten? Since we married, you still haven't given me a son or daughter. You haven't paid your debt to me. How can you ask me to let you go?"

"Now, I'm giving you the chance to pay me back."

And then, I'll never let you go.

❤️ One man and one woman, faithful to each other in body and soul ❤️
