Rabbits: gentle, cute creatures that love carrots.
Bai Zhuanghan holds up his police badge and sternly warns you: That's a lie. Don't let its adorable appearance fool you. This creature is spiteful, petty, and bad-tempered. Feed it Timothy hay with alfalfa.
After working three days straight, Bai Zhuanghan finally caught a murderer. He got home, collapsed on the carpet without even showering, and fell fast asleep. When he opened his eyes, he found a naked young man sprawled across his chest.
Bai Zhuanghan questioned his existence: Did I die on duty from overwork?
The young man woke at the noise, rubbed his bleary eyes, then slapped him across the face, grumbling, "Human, we're out of hay sticks. Why didn't you buy more?"
He felt something soft and furry beneath his hand. The young man turned around, revealing a little round, taupe rabbit tail that definitely shouldn't have been on a human body.
After a moment of chaos, Bai Zhuanghan realized something terrifying: his pet lop-eared rabbit had become a spirit.
And the rabbit told him something even more terrifying.
"The owner's dead upstairs. While you were gone these past three days, I heard the mynah bird calling for help. Go save her now."
Without time to figure out if he was dreaming, Bai Zhuanghan hurried upstairs to check. His expression turned grave as he stood at the door.
He smelled the stench of a corpse beginning to rot.
The Tianqiaoshan Branch of the Changshan Public Security Bureau is the last place anyone in criminal investigation wants to work. The locals are honest and simple, but the area breeds criminals. Whenever Bai Zhuanghan goes to a meeting, people say it feels like Gotham has sent a representative.
But then, one day, things started going suspiciously well.
A toddler sleeps soundly in her arms. The human trafficker looks lovingly at the child, inwardly gloating that she'll make another fortune.
Suddenly, a handsome young man points at her and shouts, "The child she's holding was stolen."
Following the clues, Bai Zhuanghan catches a major cross-province human trafficking ring.
When people ask how to improve the case clearance rate, everyone on the municipal criminal investigation squad keeps their lips sealed. Their eyes just drift, almost involuntarily, toward their consultant.
Under everyone's gaze, Yun Luo blushes a little and feels like scratching the base of his tail.
He's become a spirit. Surely it's only natural that he can understand the animals at crime scenes, isn't it?
An unidentified corpse sealed in cement, a serial killer stalking people out for a night run, a sanitation worker carrying a knife who gets murdered...
They trace every mystery back to its source and solve it in just a few days.
[Bonus Scene]
After his shower, Bai Zhuanghan picked up a copy of The Guide to Changes in a Corpse and pretended to read. When he heard the bathroom door slide open, he couldn't help tensing up.
After a flurry of footsteps, a soft, warm body scrambled onto him, using all four limbs.
Bai Zhuanghan shut his eyes and waited for death, raising both hands over his head in surrender. "Humans aren't like rabbits. We have our limits when it comes to that stuff. If you drain me dry, I won't be much use afterward."
Yun Luo's face was flushed from being tormented by the rabbit's mating season. "What gibberish are you talking about?"
