A gentle, sickly bottom and his hot-tempered weasel husband
A Daoist declared at Li Xunsheng's birth that his Eight Characters were too weak and his fate too precarious, and that he might not live to adulthood.
His parents were worried all day long, but Li Xunsheng himself had come to terms with his prolonged ill health. He had been clear-eyed and accepting since childhood, and continued to take life seriously, thinking that every extra day alive was a day gained.
One day, however, he got lost on his way home from school. As he wandered around, a weasel led him back to the right path. Just as he thought he was safe, the weasel stood up and smiled at him. “Child, do I look like a human or a god to you?”
Good boy Li Xunsheng had no idea what humans or gods were, but this weasel had saved him. Remembering the words his teacher had used to praise people in class, he copied them and praised the weasel gently. “You look like an exemplary student.”
The weasel's expression changed again and again. In the end, he could only grit his teeth and leave him with, “Just you wait.”
From then on, the weasel followed him around. Whenever Li Xunsheng took out his pen to do his homework, the weasel would mutter complaints beside him.
“You ruined my cultivation! You owe me!”
Li Xunsheng coughed twice. “All right. I won't live much longer. When the time comes, you can do whatever you want.”
When he was in middle school, his dormitory was built on a mass grave. The weasel kicked away an evil spirit that had come to torment Li Xunsheng in his dreams, then snarled at him, “When you die, you'll have to work for me for ten extra years!”
Li Xunsheng's face flushed. “Okay. I'll work for you.”
2.
Wei Shengyan was the most promising Yellow Immortal in his family. Enlightened by Heaven and Earth, he would be able to go out and ask for a title when he turned a hundred.
Everyone said that the most easygoing person in Li Family Village was Li Xunsheng. Wei Shengyan followed Li Xunsheng for half a month, and along the way drove away countless spirits hoping to suck the vital energy from him. He confirmed the rumor was true.
But Li Xunsheng gave the wrong answer. Wei Shengyan failed to obtain his title, and when he went looking for someone to vent his anger on, he found that someone else always got to Li Xunsheng first. This left Wei Shengyan extremely irritated. He thought he would see just how unlucky this person could get.
Later, after saving him so many times, Wei Shengyan took it upon himself to calculate the debt and discovered that Li Xunsheng already owed him 1,800 years of labor.
In 1,800 years, he could cultivate all the way to becoming an immortal. And since he was tired of his parents nagging him to settle down, Wei Shengyan held Li Xunsheng and thought: Don't humans say that a life-saving debt should be repaid with one's own hand in marriage? Li Xunsheng should have promised himself to him more than a hundred times by now.
[Extra scene]
After graduating from university, Li Xunsheng did not stay in the big city to work. He returned to his hometown. There was a rumor in the village that his family had a very effective guardian spirit, so they got by well enough.
After seeing off a little girl whose eyes had been bewitched by a wandering ghost, Li Xunsheng lay back down on his recliner. His breathing was a little uneven.
A furious shout suddenly rang out from inside the house. “Damn it! That hedgehog dared to lie to me! What do you mean, a nearly cultivated spirit of poria? This is clearly cassava!”
Wei Shengyan came out of the house, fuming and ready to settle the score. When he saw that Li Xunsheng had nothing covering him, he immediately started grumbling and briskly wrapped him up. “You get sick from a breeze and collapse from a touch, yet you never take care of yourself. Every day, you just wait for me to look after you.”
