She Struck First

The company Xu Nanzhi had worked at for several years was on the verge of going under because one of its projects was so difficult to push forward. The company had even been withholding her wages for three months. Xu Nanzhi wanted to quit, but she couldn’t get the money she was owed. And since she’d been involved with the project for years, she couldn’t bring herself to let it go, and felt resentful about how things had turned out. Then the new project director, Huo Yingchu, appeared out of nowhere. Xu Nanzhi realized that the woman was the show-off who had splashed her with muddy water while driving a sports car the night before. What followed was a series of hilarious, ridiculous, and exasperating incidents...

Just as Xu Nanzhi was run ragged trying to deal with the company’s problems, her mother started nagging her to get married.

Mrs. Xu: Your mother is reasonable and well-mannered. I’ve accepted the fact that you only like women, but what about your girlfriend? You’re thirty. Is it that hard to find a man, or is finding a girlfriend just as hard?

Go on a blind date!

With her mother breathing down her neck, Xu Nanzhi had no choice but to match with someone on a dating app. They got along quite well at first, but when they arranged to meet in person, she discovered that the other woman was her eccentric, unhinged new boss who had parachuted in over her head.

Supporting Character Storyline

Cheng Yinuo was a “poor artist” Xu Nanzhi had taken in. She was a photographer, but that wasn’t her true identity. From the moment she first saw Xu Nanzhi’s subordinate, Chu Yiran, she fell in love at first sight. She even tested the waters by finding out that Chu Yiran liked the film Carol, and concluded that Chu Yiran might not be straight either. But her benefactor, Xu Nanzhi, told her that Chu Yiran had a boyfriend. After Cheng Yinuo blocked Chu Yiran, Xu Nanzhi told her that Chu Yiran’s boyfriend was fake...
