Qi Shan'an and Gu Chizhen decide to break up today.
Their lease is up, too. They each grab a suitcase, one heading left, the other right.
But the moment they step outside, time inexplicably rewinds to breakfast that morning.
Qi Shan'an rolls her eyes. "What is this supposed to mean? You can't even stand to be apart from me in your dreams?"
Gu Chizhen sneers. "Oh, please. You're the only one who'd have such a stupid dream."

After time rewinds seventeen times, they discover that everything only returns to normal if they don't say they're breaking up.
And it's not just the words. They can't be too far apart, either.
Halfway through a business trip, they suddenly return to the movie theater where they watched a film together. While playing basketball, one shot suddenly sends them back to the cafe where they had their first date.
The erratic time loop seriously interferes with their plans to break up, and Qi Shan'an has a breakdown:
"Gu Chizhen, did you put some kind of curse on me? I want to break up! Why won't you let me break up? I'm breaking up, breaking up, breaking up!"
As expected, this triggers another loop, but awkwardly, they end up back in bed.
Gu Chizhen picks up her phone and checks the time. "I know the pattern now. You said 'break up' five times, so we went back five days."
Qi Shan'an grits her teeth. "Great analysis, but can you get out of me first?"
Gu Chizhen looks down. "Oh. You're so tight, I thought you were trying to keep me here."
Qi Shan'an: "What, you want to get back together?"
Gu Chizhen: "I don't believe this is the only way to break the loop."
Qi Shan'an: "Heh. Then why haven't you gotten out yet?"
Gu Chizhen: "Can't handle breakup sex?"
Qi Shan'an: "...Ha."
