After the Leads of a Sweet Romance Become Disabled

Deeply devoted and restrained vs. gorgeous and crazy

Back in college, Lin Zimi and Xu Jiayan were the beloved couple everyone admired.

One was the cool, disciplined heartthrob of the architecture department; the other was the art academy's famously beautiful "department flower." Some shipped them as a straight man being turned gay, others shipped them as each other's first love...

Then, just after graduating, Xu Jiayan was in a car accident while delivering documents to Lin Zimi. His legs were left disabled, and he spent his days relying on a wheelchair.

All the fairy tales and sweetness changed...

His lively cheerfulness turned into screaming until his voice gave out; his understanding nature became unreasonable; and the red rose became a mosquito bite...

Lin Zimi gazed closely at his legs and promised hoarsely, "I'll take care of you, make it up to you, and love you for the rest of my life."

Xu Jiayan turned away and wiped his tears in shame. "So it's still just out of a sense of responsibility, right?"

Xu Jiayan had no idea how many times he'd asked to break up or how many times he'd changed his mind. He lived in constant fear of the day their love would turn sour, even looking for any sign that Lin Zimi had ever felt disgust or exhaustion toward him.

If that moment ever came, he knew he would say, "I ended up like this because of you."

But it never came.

Xu Jiayan was also afraid that one day Lin Zimi would no longer be able to take it. He would rather ruin his own life too, so Lin Zimi wouldn't have to endure his emotional blackmail or shoulder the burden of keeping them both alive.

But Lin Zimi always held him close, his eyes slightly damp, and said, "I wouldn't dare. I'm afraid that if I don't do my best, my Jiayan won't have a good life."

A short story, with both bittersweet and sweet moments. It might make your teeth ache.
