Her husband was a rigid man with an empty heart. Before they had even been married for two years, Cheng Ran asked for a divorce. Then, on the day of a plane crash, she suddenly found herself back in high school.
Cheng Ran left school, feeling miserable, and unexpectedly saw a group of thugs running away in a panic. She turned to avoid them, only to catch sight of a familiar figure.
A boy radiating hostility stood across from her, his sharp features streaked with blood. His face gradually merged with her future husband's, except for a winding old scar on his left cheek, one she had never seen before.
"Yin Xu?"
Cheng Ran's breath caught. She instinctively went closer and asked, "Did they beat you?"
The boy stiffened and abruptly turned his head, showing her only the unharmed half of his face.
A moment later, several friends caught up and witnessed this startling scene.
Not long ago, he had been punching those thugs relentlessly, fierce and unflinching. Now a girl was tugging at the hem of his clothes, and he wouldn't budge an inch.
Noticing their posture, Cheng Ran's legs trembled, but she put on a brave face and warned them, "If you don't leave, I'll call the police!"
After a few seconds of silence, Yin Xu finally spoke, lowering his head. "Forget it. They didn't mean to."
The group who had rushed over with weapons to help: "...??"
Young Yin Xu seems indifferent, but he has a kind heart. Maybe they would be better off as friends than as husband and wife. Yet whenever the thugs come looking for trouble, he always lets them off easy, leaving himself covered in injuries.
After helping him apply medicine for the Nth time, Cheng Ran got angry and decided to have a talk with him.
The next day, she went to Yin Xu's house. The door was open, so she went in.
The room was dim and damp. On the table sat a delicate wooden box that seemed out of place there. Its lid was open, as if its owner had only just left.
Outside, lightning flashed one bolt after another. For an instant, the contents of the box became clear: an ugly notebook she had casually tossed away, a hair tie, her ID photo...
Suddenly, measured footsteps sounded behind her.
Cheng Ran turned around in a panic. The boy's face, flickering between light and shadow, was reflected in her eyes. His knuckles were clenched and pale, and the air around him felt utterly lifeless.
"Didn't you want to talk to me?"
Yin Xu's expression was as dead as a stagnant pool. His cool breath brushed her ear as he calmly said, "Go ahead."
Yin Xu has always been cold-hearted. He just has one habit: he walks two extra kilometers every day. As luck would have it, he runs into her, and as luck would have it, they happen to be going the same way.
Until one day, she suddenly turns around and calls his name.
