Qi Zhao wakes from a dream one day and finds herself five years in the future. She's married to her childhood sweetheart.
But in the third year of their marriage, she cheated on him. She told Gu Xingzhi she had a first love she couldn't forget, that she didn't love him and only saw him as family.
As memories flood back, Qi Zhao realizes she's a supporting female character in a contemporary male-oriented novel. Her role is to have a crush on the male lead throughout high school, marry someone she doesn't love for the sake of his career, then become the generous, perpetually sleeping wife after he succeeds.
When she opens her eyes, Gu Xingzhi is standing quietly in front of her, a conspicuous bruise on his right cheek.
Qi Zhao hurries over and asks, "What happened to your face? Who hit you?"
The housekeeper happens to pass by and says casually, "Madam, you slapped him yesterday."
Qi Zhao: ...Can she still call him darling and get away with it?
Qi Zhao thought that once she came to her senses, their relationship could go back to how it was.
If they couldn't be a couple... they could at least be friends.
She'd been frail since childhood, sometimes seriously ill and often under the weather, so she developed the habit of keeping a diary. That way, if she ever suddenly kicked the bucket, she'd leave her family something to remember her by.
Strangely, she found many things written in the diary that she had no memory of.
But the handwriting was hers, and even if she threw the diary away, it would reappear.
There was nothing she could do but hide it carefully.
One day, she finally cut ties with her clingy "first love."
When she got home, she found Gu Xingzhi sitting on the living room sofa, turned away so she couldn't read his expression. The hidden diary was open in front of him.
In the blink of an eye, Qi Zhao is pinned in a corner. The man before her has a terrifyingly calm expression as he slowly wipes away her tears, shed against her will. His voice is sickly and obscure as he reads aloud:
"Gu Xingzhi wasn't at school today, so I finally got to walk with him."
"I like him so much, but I don't think he likes me."
"I'm getting married. The groom isn't him."
"I want a divorce. I want to go with him."
Gu Xingzhi kisses the corner of her eye and asks, "Where does our Zhaozhao want to go?"
A few days later, Gu Xingzhi drags her back and asks, right in front of her, "What do you like about this other man? His face, his body, or what?"
Just as Qi Zhao is about to answer, he suddenly smiles.
"Say one word, and I'll kill him."
