Ling Sui didn’t know at first that she had transmigrated into a book.
She was born into a small sect. Her father was the sect leader, and she and her senior brother had grown up together. They got engaged the year he reached Foundation Establishment.
There was a rule in the sect: after reaching Foundation Establishment, disciples had to leave the mountain and train. So only a few days after their engagement, her senior brother left.
Ling Sui was reluctant to see him go. She thought it would be three or five years before they met again, but her parents told her that her senior brother was born with a sword spirit root and was a cultivation prodigy. What took others three or five years to accomplish, he could do in three or five months.
Ling Sui thought they had a point, so three months after her senior brother left the sect, she began going to the mountain gate every day to wait for him.
Sadly, she never saw him return.
He vanished without a trace. If his soul lamp hadn’t still been burning, she would have thought he’d died out there.

Years later, Ling Sui went to the Immortal Realm’s grand tournament to join the crowds. She heard that Zhenjun Linhua of the First Immortal Sect was born with a sword spirit root, exceptionally handsome, and a favorite to win the tournament.
That title sounded familiar.
Ling Sui didn’t think much of it at the time. She gathered all her money and prepared to bet it all on Zhenjun Linhua. The odds weren’t great, but it was a sure win.
Just before she placed her bet, someone exclaimed, “Is that Zhenjun Linhua?!”
Ling Sui looked over and saw the face of the senior brother she hadn’t seen in years.
He really hadn’t died.
Not only was he alive, he was thriving. He had become a famous powerhouse in the cultivation world, joined the school of a Dao Lord who had overcome tribulation, and was always seen with the most beautiful woman under heaven.
He had no memory of his past, and had even abandoned his original name.
When Ling Sui heard the name he went by now, she realized she had transmigrated into a book.
She had transmigrated into a groveling-regret novel, and the male lead was her senior brother.
The novel said that the biggest source of angst between the male and female leads was that, before meeting the heroine, the male lead had once had a fiancée.
His first master had forced the engagement on him.
After losing his memory in an accident, he met the heroine, and the two fell in love.
In the original story, he happened to be recognized by his former fiancée at one of the immortal sects’ grand tournaments.
He wanted to make amends to his ex, for whom he felt nothing, in some other way, but she wouldn’t let it go. She caused trouble every day, making everyone hate her. In the end, her greed led her to frame the heroine, and she brought about her own ruin, dying a gruesome death in the bottomless abyss.
The emotionless ex-fiancée, Ling Sui, silently tightened her grip on her Qiankun pouch and put her spirit stones on another favorite to win.
That bastard would’ve been better off dying out there!
