Older master and younger disciple
Everyone knew that Wen Tian Sect had an eccentric member.
Wen You, the young master of the unorthodox path, had peach-blossom eyes and the looks of a young master from an ordinary noble family. Yet everything he wore, from hairpin to shoes, was a magical artifact. He was an expert in every unorthodox trick in the book. Even a bet with street thugs over a magical treasure chest could win him a disciple.
The disciple was named Yun Yue. He looked like a young man and was covered in serious injuries, yet anyone could tell at a glance that he was destined for greatness.
Everyone who saw him said he had extraordinary natural gifts and would surely attain the Great Dao. Wen You merely thought his fate was strange, and on a whim, won him for himself.
A few days later, Wen You lost interest. He tossed Yun Yue, who had been pleading with him, a prescription for healing pills and left him to fend for himself. "If you really heal your injuries, then think about coming to Seeking the Dao Peak to find me."
A year later, Wen You had toured Jiangnan and eaten every delicacy he could find. At last, he returned to Seeking the Dao Peak.
The boy he'd casually abandoned was actually kneeling at the summit, holding a furnace full of pills he'd refined. "Master, I've come to repay your kindness."
Wen You smiled as he waved his fan. "Kid, you've already made your first mistake. Wen Tian Sect doesn't accept disciples who only know how to repay kindness."
But in that moment, he saw fate once more.
If he reached out as he had back then and won this man away from the path laid out for him, perhaps something in the world really would change course.
So Wen You kept Yun Yue, and from that day on, Wen Tian Sect had a second disciple, a genius who cultivated demonic arts.
Wen You took disciples on a whim, tossing Yun Yue a book of scripture and leaving him to fend for himself.
Yun Yue was born with a sword bone and astonishing comprehension. He reached Foundation Establishment in three months and was invincible among his peers. He should have been the chosen one, sweeping across the Nine Provinces.
But at Wen You's side, what he did most often was serve tea and warm wine, accompany his master into the world to observe its principles, and investigate the mystery of ascension, all while finding the finest treasures and cultivation materials in the world for Wen You.
Others laughed that he was wasting his talents. Yun Yue only said, "My master can't be bothered with you."
Wen You smiled and asked, "Yun Yue, did you come here to cultivate the Dao, or to wait on me?"
Yun Yue replied, "As long as Master lets me stay."
Wen You looked up at the sky and sighed. "It's not that your master doesn't want to keep proper boundaries. It's just that this rebellious disciple keeps trying to deceive his master and usurp his place!"
