When Chen Sui was sixteen, she arrived at the Zhou family's home with nothing to her name.
She looked up and saw a boy coming down the stairs.
He'd just showered, his black hair hanging damp over his forehead. As he passed her, a clean, expensive scent wafted by.
Mr. and Mrs. Zhou told her that this would be her home from now on, and that Zhou Qi would be her older brother.
But Chen Sui never dared call him that.
Zhou Qi was so dazzling, like the sun. At school, he was always at the center of a crowd of admirers.
And she was ordinary and timid, born not to fit in with people like them.
Those beautiful eyes always turned cold when he looked at her.
"Chen Sui, why are you blushing?"
She thought that if she hid her secret and behaved well enough, she could stay.
"Zhou Qi, don't tell me your step-sister's actually pretty. Could you let her call me 'big brother' a couple of times too?"
Chen Sui was about to speak when a voice cut her off.
"Get lost."
After his friend left, she planned to follow him out, but Lu Jin grabbed her and pulled her against him.
At such close quarters, his scent surrounded her instantly.
"Why aren't you smiling anymore now that he's gone? Do you want him to be your big brother that badly?"
"Or do you just hate me that much?"
After the college entrance exams, the room at the far end of the second floor was empty.
For some inexplicable reason, Zhou Qi went inside, trying to find some trace that she had ever been there.
But there was nothing except a note tucked into a gap in the drawer.
"Chen Sui loves Zhou Qi."
He breathed in the scent of the writing, as if trying to recall her scent from it.
Picking up a pen, he added a line underneath:
"Little fool, hide well, and pray Zhou Qi doesn't find you."
What would he do once he found her? First, he'd make her repeat the words on the note.
No, a hundred times.
[He doesn't want her to call him "big brother," because he wants to be more than that.]
