I, Toyotomi Arashi, am a first-year student in Rikkai High School's senior division.
In middle school, my teammates and I made history with sixteen consecutive Kanto titles and three consecutive national championships. I thought high school would be simple: play tennis, win championships, and dominate the country again with my teammates.
But I never expected the next wave of ridiculous rumors to arrive before the praise:
"Did you hear? Shiraishi from Shitenhoji went to ask Toyotomi for his LINE after a match!"
"Atobe from Hyotei even publicly said Toyotomi is the opponent he admires most!"
"And Tezuka and Fuji from Seigaku, back then they only... because of Toyotomi..."
The worst was yet to come:
"Toyotomi had dinner alone with someone from School A last week!"
"What?! Then what about the one from School B?"
"You all didn't know? The one from School C is the real queen..."
"Tch. He's a player."
Who? A player? Me?!
I stared at the training requests and friendly match invitations from players at other schools filling my phone, along with an inbox bursting with greetings, and fell into deep thought.
So is my high school life just going to be a constant back-and-forth between playing tennis and denying rumors?
What made me even more distraught was that after hearing about all this, my parents enthusiastically threw me a birthday party.
On the day of the party, my parents and I stared in silence at the steady stream of guests and the gifts piled all over the living room.
"Arashi-chan," my mom began cautiously, "I thought all you did was play tennis..."
I don't know either!
I swear, all I do is play tennis.
My dad's expression was complicated, with a hint of relief mixed into his shock. "Our Arashi-chan is just a tiny bit popular!"
Me: "..."
