Synopsis
Cunning, sweet-talking heroine with a hidden edge × calm, clear-headed hero who falls hard
Xue Hanyin wasn't sick.
Coming to the capital for medical treatment was an excuse. Her true aim was to stay at the Zhou residence and win Zhou Shiqing's favor.
Born into a powerful family, Zhou Shiqing was disciplined and courteous, always every inch the refined gentleman. The noblewomen of the capital fell for him one after another, but no one had ever reached his heart.
Everything had always gone Zhou Shiqing's way. He thought he could plan for every outcome and read anyone's heart, but Xue Hanyin was the one who brought him down.
Xue Hanyin laid her plans and lured him in step by step, until the man's gaze lingered on her. Beneath the rockery late one night, his eyes dark, he saw through her disguise. "Cousin Xue, did you come to the capital for medical treatment, or do you have another motive?"
She deliberately arranged for Zhou Shiqing to overhear her conversation with her maid. "Of course I'm playing hard to get with Cousin."
Zhou Shiqing understood what she was up to. But when he saw her deliberately avoid him and respectfully call him "Cousin" in front of everyone, behaving impeccably at every turn, an inexplicable, possessive streak stirred inside him.
He knew her intentions were impure and that she was deliberately seducing him. So why did he care about her so much?
It was a trick other people had used countless times before. So why was she still throwing him into such confusion?
At first, he watched coldly, waiting for her to finish her little performance. Instead, he heard that she was bedridden with a lingering illness and unable to get up.
He assumed it was another old game of playing hard to get and paid it no mind. Then her maid brought him a letter: "Cousin, you are as noble and elegant as an orchid and jade tree. I am no more than a willow in the wind, and know I am unworthy of you. I hope you will find a better match."
He read it in silence. After the maid left, he watched with a cold face as the candle flame consumed the paper. In all his life, this was the first time anyone had played him for a fool like this.
She had schemed at every turn, making him worry for her, keeping him restless, and coaxing him into giving her his heart. Then, once he truly loved her, she sent him a letter ending things and told him to find someone else.
Absolutely not. He would never let her go.
Late that night, Zhou Shiqing knelt beside her bed. "Cousin, you truly are cruel. You toyed with me as if I were in the palm of your hand, leaving me unable to sleep night after night."

Reading guide:
1. The heroine is not purely kind and innocent, nor a flawless, perfect heroine. Please don't read if that bothers you.
2. The hero is arrogant at first. He likes the heroine but refuses to admit it, then falls hard later on.
3. I won't reply to every comment. I'll respond when I have time, so please focus on reading.
4. The leads are each other's only partners.

Aloof, restrained, powerful minister × frail, helpless orphan girl
When Feng Wanghe was five, the village fortune-teller cast her fortune and said she would one day meet a great benefactor, then live a life of luxury, with fine clothes and plenty to eat.
Before her destined benefactor could arrive, a drought cut off Feng Wanghe's chance to survive.
With no one to rely on and gravely ill, she found a patch of land to be buried in. But there, she saw Zhou Luqi, barely clinging to life.
She gambled her last chance at survival, feeding him the little water she had left. Then she lay quietly beside him, resolved to see it through to the end.
"If you don't wake up, we'll both die here. This place was once beautiful, with clear waters and green hills. At least we'll have each other, so we won't be alone."
Feng Wanghe won her gamble.
The man she saved was Zhou Luqi, a powerful figure who could command the winds and clouds.
When his attendants found him, he was holding the unconscious Feng Wanghe, his fingers clenching the thin fabric of her clothes. "We won't die. You and I are going to live."
Zhou Luqi took Feng Wanghe away and cared for her in luxury. He couldn't explain how he felt about her. At first, he thought he was repaying her kindness. He wanted Feng Wanghe to have a good life.
Only later did he understand that it was a love that had taken root in his bones. He loved Feng Wanghe and wanted her to stay by his side forever. He wanted to lock her away where only he could see her, so she would look at no one but him. But he knew that wasn't right.
"Wanghe, I think I'm sick. I want so badly to lock you up and keep you by my side forever. Would you be willing?"
He lowered his head, unwilling to meet Feng Wanghe's eyes. He was afraid of seeing disappointment and fear in them.
The world was so vast. He was afraid he couldn't keep her.
Feng Wanghe touched his cold face and said softly, "Look at me. I want to."

Reading guide:
1. Later on, there will be some yandere-like scenes, but don't worry. The hero is a polite little yandere who won't hurt the heroine. These scenes bring them closer.
2. The plot follows the characters. I won't add angst just for the sake of it.
Theme: Love doesn't come by waiting for it, so go after it!
