[Jinpei Matsuda] Matsuda Jinpei, I Don’t Think We Ever Finished Talking

My name is Asakura Rin. I went to the police academy just because I wanted a stable job.

Matsuda Jinpei was in my class at the academy. He had a sharp tongue, a sour expression, and skills so good they made me furious. We were classmates for years, then colleagues for years. He took apart my hair clip, fixed my toys, and "just happened" to give me all sorts of things. He helped me train, and when we were on duty, he was always yelling at me. For years, whenever we met, we argued. Neither of us ever gave an inch.

I never thought I'd remember so much about him. The things he'd say offhandedly. The way he told me, "Stop acting like you can handle everything." Later, he was no longer part of my life. But I still turn around without thinking, and stop when I reach certain places. Only then do I realize that his echoes are everywhere.

Only then do I realize that there was more we never got to say than just words.

In the end, we were nothing more than the best of friends.
