I Think I’m Raising a Deadly Retainer

Wen Xianghe was born with a talent for bad luck. The list included getting hit by a car while crossing on a green light, having a flowerpot fall from the sky, renting next door to a haunted apartment, and bringing bad luck to every company he joined. By now, no company would dare hire him...

These days, Wen Xianghe would rather earn a little less and be an overworked corporate drone than keep job-hunting for somewhere he could feel secure.

After one setback after another, he finally hit his breaking point and started pouring his heart out to the stranger beside him.

The other person listened in silence, then said, "Why don't you give my company a try?"

Wen Xianghe: Is this direct hiring by the boss?

Wen Xianghe nervously started his new job, never expecting...

The work was easy, the benefits were fantastic, the entertainment facilities were comprehensive, and his coworkers were warm and friendly...

Wen Xianghe: If I can keep working here, I'll go through fire and water for this company!

Wait, have I been recruited into some kind of death squad?!

But every day, he saw different coworkers showing up to work covered in wounds and blood, grinning foolishly whenever they saw him. Thinking about his own terrible luck, Wen Xianghe felt guilty.

So he handed in his resignation.

The boss thought it over for three days before calling Wen Xianghe into his office, looking troubled. "I thought you were happy with the company's conditions."

Wen Xianghe: "I've never seen better benefits! I want to work here every day. I'm afraid the company might disappear!"

The boss's expression grew complicated, and he sighed deeply. "After thinking it over, I guess the only thing I can't provide you with is a partner. If all else fails, why not look around the company? If someone catches your eye, I can put in a word for you. Let's put the resignation on hold for now."

Wen Xianghe fell silent for a long time, after being so earnestly begged to stay.

Until Wen Xianghe repeatedly caught the boss putting on a show for him, using a handsome face that looked even more gloomy and overworked than his own.

He wanted to speak, then stopped; he stopped, then wanted to speak.
