Reborn Thirty-Three Times

Zhuang Chen was reborn.

Every time he woke up, it was September 1, at 7:03 in the morning.

Twenty-six seconds later, someone would kill him in bed.

The first time, Zhuang Chen didn't even have time to fight back before he died beneath an axe.

The second time, he opened his eyes and fought desperately for a chance to survive. After figuring out that the other person was a criminal pretending to break in and rob him, he was killed again.

The seventh time, Zhuang Chen managed to subdue the intruder in his bedroom. Covered in blood and holding an axe, he died of blood loss before he could even leave the room.

The fifteenth time, Zhuang Chen fought to kill the murderer, then managed to save himself by stopping the bleeding.

Now came the question:

Looking at his bloodstained hands and the corpse lying on the floor, Zhuang Chen wondered whether he should report the crime first or flee after committing murder.

On his first day joining the police force in September, Qin Muye received a report from a member of the public: a major homicide had taken place in his jurisdiction.

He went to the crime scene and discovered that the victim was Zhuang Chen, his ex-boyfriend who had dumped him three years ago.

The fleeing murderer was caught that very day. According to his confession, he and the victim had been lovers, and after an argument, he had accidentally killed him.

Qin Muye spent the whole night staring at the murderer in the interrogation room.

The next morning, Qin Muye found himself back on September 1, standing at the police station entrance to complete his onboarding paperwork.

He received another call reporting a crime. This time, the murderer caught and brought in was his ex-boyfriend, Zhuang Chen.
